It's not surprising Pence not wearing a mask during an international pandemic is international news. The world sits in awe at how stupid this country is and that Trump and Pence are our so-called "leaders."

2

Donald Trump, Mike Pence, and Mitch McConnell all drop dead from COVID-19 due to their denial of the seriousness of the global pandemic, and their own willful ignorance.
The world rejoices over The Fall of the Evil Empire. Film at 11!

So, if a critical mass of Repubs decide to follow Flake's lead and attempt to restore some shred of decency and integrity to their party, will all the Trumpist trolls (both online and IRL) pretend like they never liked Trump to begin with? Or will they double-down on their stupid? Or will they just crawl back underground to their 8chan/Stormfront white supremacist shitholes?

The Atlantic: The Trump Presidency is Over

It has taken a good deal longer than it should have, but Americans have now seen the con man behind the curtain. The president, enraged for having been unmasked, will become more desperate, more embittered, more unhinged. He knows nothing will be the same. His administration may stagger on, but it will be only a hollow shell. The Trump presidency is over.

"I don’t know of any of my colleagues who really believe this is it"

Jeff Flake is an ex-senator and a pariah within the Republican party. It's not clear that he actually has anyone he can claim as a colleague.

@4 Lastlight and @6 GermanSausage: MAGAs are already rapidly dying of TRUMPVID-19 in many Trump zones through the Deeply Divided States. The Southeastern Divided States, in particular, is predicted to become a desolate wasteland. The conglomeration of Wal*Mart and fast food takeout over Mom'n' Pop markets and family grocery stores has made the region a "food desert". Many are force to drive for miles before finding healthy, nutritious fresh produce, meats, seafood, and dairy products. Add to that all the red states who opposed Medicaid expansion (Alabama, for one) and the means to finally provide healthcare for the poorest of citizens, all dropping like flies of cancer and other preventable illnesses, and it's not looking good for KKK-saturated Jim Crow Country.
What amazes me is how blindsided MAGAs are about willfully losing everything--even their own lives, and stubbornly believe that the rest of us should just do it, too, because, to them, it is The Answer. All because a businessman in an expensive suit said so. A fraudulent businessman selling snake oil, smoke and mirrors who filed for bankruptcy FOUR TIMES and got bailed out by its parents and Wall Street. How many among us, let alone any of the working poor in the Deep South, stand a chance of Wall Street giving Joe and Jane Average Citizen a break?

@7 That piece is from a month and a half ago. I'm not saying it's not still worth reading, but those checking it out will want to keep that in mind when they read things in it like, "Earlier this week, Anthony Fauci...admitted in congressional testimony that the United States is still not providing adequate testing for the coronavirus."

Fauci's statement, sadly, is just as true now as it was then.

@7: It's a shame that it took over three years too long for Trump voters to pull their heads out and finally wake up. The disastrous 2016 election, fueled by the outdated Electoral College, election interference by Russian hackers, and the Koch brothers should have been immediate cause for criminal investigation. Hillary Clinton should be in the White House now, as she won by nearly three million votes. If she were #45, we'd all be in a utopia.

"He believes God will save him." That is fine for him, but what about setting an example for other people, WWJD? I wonder what Pence really believes, He seems like an old testament guy to me. I mean, "turn the other cheek", "whatever you did [not] for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did [not] for me.", " Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." doesn't really seem like his style.

So, looking at the Old Testament; "You shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation" Well, sure Trump isn't a "carved image" (he'd probably be a little smarter and a lot less dangerous if he was a chunk of rock) but clearly Trump places himself above everything else, and by everything I mean EVERYTHING.
Though maybe Pence may have a way to redeem himself, I don't know. The 25th amendment says: "Section 1. In case of the removal of the President from office or of his death or resignation, the Vice President shall become President." Note the full stop, no conditions or disclaimers. Trump has said the he could pardon himself, so by extension (in Trump's alternative reality) any president should be able to pardon themselves.... Sure Jesus probably wouldn't approve, but if we look at Leviticus it seems Papa had a different view of dealing with certain people.

13

@12- IIRC correctly, if Pence were to have a tragic coronavirus-fueled end, Trump does not get a new VP unless the House agrees (I would hope Pelosi would block this). That would put us one last cheeseburger away from President Pelosi.

14

@2 I hope that Trump, Pence and/or McConnell do not die from COVID19. It would be a total cluster with internet trolls and Fox News working in concert ginning up a civil war accusing the Democrats, the Deep State, Obama, the Clintons, evolution, women in the workplace, homosexuals, cell towers, George Soros, Bill Gates, etc. for their deaths.

15

@12,

A year or two ago Terry Gross had a Pence biographer on to Fresh Air. It's not mind blowing, but worth a listen for some insight into what drives him.

https://www.npr.org/2019/09/26/764613905/piety-power-considers-the-life-and-ambition-of-vice-president-mike-pence

He (the biographer) suggested that some of the fundy extremism might not be wholly genuine, but rather part of a calculated political maneuver to gain and keep power. Like yeah, he's an evangelical nut no doubt, but also a run-of-the-mill power hungry dick who maybe saw and took advantage of an opportunity to capture the support of a valuable voting bloc. Not sure that necessarily makes me respect him any less or more, but I thought it was interesting.

Also, he does apparently maintain Presidential aspirations.

[shudder]

If inlsee extends the stay at home order I hope trump and barr sue the shit out of him. We flattened the curve, and our hospitals were not overrun, that was the objective. He just announced TWO DAYS AGO that state parks would reopen next week, now he's telling us we can't go to them? Fuck em.

17

@16, instead of sitting on your couch and whining, how about taking charge of your life? Georgia Governor Brian Kemp is doing a great job reopening things there. Why not move to Georgia? I'm sure you can get a job there. You can certainly get a tattoo. (For you I'd recommend an Anders Tegnell tattoo: https://nypost.com/2020/04/27/man-gets-epidemiologist-tattoo-as-swedish-tribute/).

Either that or you'll just have to wait until November and vote a straight Trump+Eyman ballot. I'm sure Tim will gladly liberate you.

18

@17 Dude, give it a rest. There's nothing wrong with speaking out about this idiotic quarantine. There is something wrong with harassing people who do so though. It's ironic you think I'm sitting on my butt when I'm the one who doesn't want to be stuck at home. I'll be taking a break from remodeling my kitchen to go on a hike this Friday, but it would be nice to not have to worry about legal repercussions.

19

@10: The premise of the article accommodates the depravity we haven't seen unfold.

20

tmplknght @16 and @18, you've got the right to advocate for your position. And I've got a right to advocate for my position, which is that Jay Inslee should hold the line against the onslaught of stupid coming his way.

As long as you're remodeling your kitchen, let me give you some advice. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

21

i vote for more pants-less tv-commentators. there's an election coming up, right? i sure hope that's on the ballot.

22

Barebackin' Mike makes his own rules.

23

@18:

This "idiotic quarantine" is what's keeping many people, including people you know and perhaps even care about, alive and healthy. But yeah, bitch-and-moan that people aren't dying and how much of an inconvenience that is for you because you can't go fucking fishing or whatever.

25

@23 and @24, I'm afraid what you're doing constitutes harassment according to poor tmplknight's standards: "There is something wrong with harassing people...."

From my experience, this user likes to present himself or herself as a reasonable progressive but then bitch and moan about how this progressive policy or that progressive project is too hard or imposes too much of a tax burden or is going to take too long. I'm remembering this user because he or she has a thing about supporting transit but then complaining that everything Sound Transit does is just too much of a sacrifice. tmplknght's reaction here to the governor's firm and consistent coronavirus policy is entirely according to type.

"California imposed the lockdown in March and required all nonessential businesses to close. But [Elon Musk's] Tesla told employees at the Fremont plant to report to work unless they were sick, or to take vacation days if they stayed at home. The local sheriff’s office forced the company to obey the state order and close the plant."

Hitting Elon right smack in the pocketbook.

"Tesla’s plant in Shanghai has resumed production."

And to think, we couldda Been there, too.
