More needs to be done by the federal government as cases and deaths are still happening. Until the public health crisis is successfully managed, nothing else will work.

One Of The First California Counties To Reopen Is Closing Again

“We now have a serious problem,” Lassen County’s public health officer said of the new coronavirus outbreak.

Earlier this month, before Newsom gave Lassen County the go-ahead to reopen, lawmakers from the area complained there shouldn’t be a “one size fits all” policy for ending social distancing orders and argued that small communities without coronavirus cases should be able to reopen sooner.

Is anyone paying attention? Every place that has lifted restrictions sees an immediate increase in cases and deaths.

@5 You are angry at the wrong person. Trump is the one you should be angry at. The GOP enablers of Trump are the ones you should be angry at. The people who put Trump in the WH are the ones you should be angry at. Rail all you want against Inslee. It's like yelling at clouds. Until the federal government solves the public health crisis, there will be no resolution to the economic crisis. Open the state of WA now, close it again in 2 to 3 weeks. Blame Inslee for everything, vote in someone else. The GOP governors opening their states are seeing spikes in cases and deaths and there will be no economic recovery. The Democratic governors trying to keep their states closed are being vilified. People are (and will continue to) defy. Cases and deaths will continue to spike nationwide. We are country with no leadership and no public health crisis plan in place. There is no end to this until the virus is no longer a threat. Thanks to Trump and his minions the damage is (and will continue to be) catastrophic on all levels.

States Are in Crisis. Why Won’t Trump Help?

Federal support for cities and states was a core part of the New Deal. The president is tearing it apart.

@6 & @7 xina for the WIN!

@5 - Inslee doesn't fucking know when people can go back to work. You don't, either,* nor do I. We simply do not know how long it is going to take to get the pandemic under control. Sorry, but it is not something you can schedule. The best we can do is to keep beating the number of cases down and slowing transmission. Inslee has been lifting stay at home orders when the experts think it is OK to do so. I am not an epidemiologist, and I bet you are not either. Which means that we are not the ones to make the best educated guess about when we have gotten to a point of relative safety.

By which I mean, "go back to work without a whole bunch more dead people as a result." You may think it's fine to open everything up now. I disagree. Maybe I am a selfish bastard, but I'd much prefer to get this thing handled right so a whole bunch of us (maybe including me) don't get dead.

@9, well said. Jay Inslee has to deal with the real world, not the fantasy world that man-babies like jackkay here can occupy. Unfortunately, in the real world, our federal government is a kakitocracy headed by a mentally ill Russian asset and half of our Congress is controlled by kleptocrats who want to Make America Brazil Again, which means governors like Inslee are having to fight this virus with one hand tied behind their backs.

Having said that, you don't get to go to war with the army you may want or wish to have (to quote Rummy there), and this state has to take whatever extraordinary measures it can to simulate governments like South Korea and beat back the virus.

12

@11, so true. Jay Inslee has to be the worst dictator in the history of this state. How many more freedom-loving Washingtonians have to be sent to the gulags of Eastern Washington before we stand up for our rights?

Next thing you know, autocrat that he is, Inlee's going to cancel the November 3rd gubernatorial election.

@12 -- yes, that's what some people are saying.
It's not as bad as Russia

it's Worse.
