@11 - I can't tell if you're being willfully obtuse or if you genuinely don't understand. Tear gas affects more than just the few people who choose to provoke the police, so even if 99.99% of participants are peaceful, one thrown water bottle could lead to the whole group being gassed. Also, the cops seem to set the tear gas bar pretty low, so low that I wouldn't expect to get out of any protest, no matter how peaceful, without a tear gas deployment.
