@1, Maybe you're just trolling but...

The police are the rabble. That is what this episode, and the ensuing events, illustrate. Have you watched the video? George Floyd was murdered by a cop. Cops should not be allowed to keep doing this. Don't you get it? You seem to be deliberately avoiding the obvious fact with your unconvincing interest in Floyd's life.

They need less money, and more screening for racist tendencies and psychological instability. Actually the whole profession needs to be disassembled and rebuilt to serve a proper function. Probably with a brand new name, since "police" and 'officer" are more and more going to be associated with the words "dangerous," "racist," and "abusive".

@1

People don't use drugs or commit crimes because they don't have a job, they fall into those behaviors because they don't have money (or hope).
If we had UBI we would need fewer police not more, and that savings should definitely be calculated when "pricing" UBI.

@1: It's called the "Just World Fallacy." It's what allows lucky people to believe they are not merely lucky but deserving, and to withhold empathy for the unlucky, based on the assumption that they must have done something to deserve their ill fortune.

The good news is this cognitive impairment from which you suffer is curable.

@4 Exactly. Spot on.

8

So it was Murder 1.

The other cops did Murder 2.

You have no idea how much money mr. Floyd made before losing his job, and you have no idea how much money he received for unemployment.
Couple that with the fact that his unemployment would have run out before he was able to return to work, and it can clearly be seen that your argument is invalid.

The enhanced unemployment benefits are set to run out by the end of July.
The club that mr. Floyd worked at is not going to open by then, if it ever reopens.

Let's not forget that there is no proof that Mr Floyd was involved in the crime the police were called to investigate.

Speaking of the crime of passing counterfeit currency, I should point out that an individual must be found in possession of counterfeit currency in order to be prosecuted. If the clerk at the store accepted the bill, then there is nothing the police could legally do.

Again, there is no proof that the police had the right man.

You mentioned that people born into the "lower classes" usually stay there, but what you failed to mention is that people born into the "upper classes" only need to lose their money to become "lower class".

You should remember that the rights extended to those with the least amount of political power are all the rights any of us actually have.

Why are we talking about his criminal history? The guy allegedly passed a phony $20! Since when is that a capital offense requiring summary judgement and execution? He wasn't threatening anyone. He wasn't resisting. I've done worse and no one has EVER choked the life out of me.

They also lived on the same planet. Call Space Force!

@ProfHiz -- is that why
we shouldn't get our Info
from a duck farting misinformation?

Works for me.

Chauvin reportedly avoided working "African American Nights" at the club, when George Floyd was usually working. Also Chauvin treats black people like wild animals and had 18 complaints against him. I don't know if it would have made a difference, when being recorded and yelled at went right by Chauvin's head with no reaction. He seems like a psychopath to me.

The smallest of corrections, Charles-the name of the grocery outside of which George Floyd was killed is 'Cup Foods', an obvious word play on our biggest local grocery chain in the Twin Cities, 'Cub Foods'.

All the store is waiting for is one confused semi-truck driver to deliver to them, and they'll be set for a year!

Please wait...
