Dog knows as an historian I’ve frequently said these stupid “aliens did it” shows express enormous disrespect for the pre-modern cultures that constructed these structures and for the intelligence and ingenuity of ancient peoples generally.

Well the Old Kingdom Egyptians did build the pyramids. Of course they did it with a corvée, a form of slave labor, which I thought was bad. Or maybe not because these slaves (and indeed ancient Egyptians generally) weren’t sub-Saharan African, regardless of how their culture may have been appropriated in modern times. Oops, I’m sorry, that can’t be right because only white people engage in cultural appropriation.

Point being twofold:

1) Yes, you’re damned right that ancient civilizations were quite capable of building all kinds of crazy monuments without resort to aliens. Oops, except Stonehenge I guess, because white people “couldn’t” have done it. I guess we either had a ragtag band of sub-Saharan Africans or possibly Central American Indigenous living in Bronze Age Wiltshire. Or maybe that one actually was aliens. Because Dog knows we have to judge pre-modern people by the color of their skin, right?

2) It’s really effing dumb to project contemporary racial issues back hundreds or thousands of years on to peoples who didn’t think in the same categories we do.
