It’s not like relations between the public and our militarized fugitive slave chasers/police have already imploded to an all-time low or anything.

3

He failed to reflect the core values of the department? His behavior seems very in line with police values to me.

5

"Re-Imagine the Police" might be a good slogan.

6

I'm not sure I understand this story. Did Mike Brown post his typical KCSO thinking under his real name rather than an alias like the other fascists and neo-nazi's in the department? Or, was Mike Brown and alias for a Sheriff and they are not releasing his real name?

Mr. Rich raises a good point. The Sheriff's Office and Prosecutor's office failed to hold the KCSO death squad that murdered Mi’Chance Dunlap-Gittens accountable. Why would they take sadistic words for seriously than sadistic behavior?

7

@5 I dunno, you can't really do that without picking someone to replace Sting, but that would just make it a different band entirely.

8

@5 - that's a way better slogan than "defund." It would be attracting way less crap than people are getting now.

9

@5, 8,

Splitting hairs here, but "Re-imagine" may have wound up being a bit esoteric and hippy-dippy (even as I agree that "de-fund" may be a bit too radical to garner serious consideration among a sizable block of the populace.) Ugh. I loathe the idea that catchy slogans and visually appealing branding are necessary elements to make morally sound ideas tenable but here we are. I pray to have kicked the can before the first grassroots protest movement hires a marketing team.

Never forget that Jenny Durkan and Carmen Best ordered chemical weapons launched at medics tending to wounded protesters.

Either they ordered it, or they looked the other way at the police officers who did it, which is the same thing.

There are many who deserve summary dismissal and subsequent legal action.

@5, 8, 9

"Re-Imagine" also lacks the moral impetus of "defund." You can imagine, after all, a police force with bigger sticks or louder batman gadgets or more elaborate regalia, if your fancy runs to that.

The problem is not that the creative expressions of the police are in an artistic rut, and need an injection of novelty. The problem is that the police have too little accountability and too much power, and are far too frequently abusing it.

"Defund" and its various interpretations and offshoots at least keep the focus where it belongs, even if they do give the the willies to a high-minded selection of the citizenry.

@10 - Straight up truths.

12

@11 - Jinx :>) Straight up truth also: Defund.
Cops are NOT beyond the law.
We will catch up to them. Justice is just a matter of time now.

Check this out, a 150 year performance review of the Minneapolis Police Dept.

The kind of long-term historical perspective that we need, in this stupid "Trumpian" quicksand sound-bite media propaganda onslaught.

Defund or bust. Taking the money away is the only thing that will make any difference. Does that make people clutch their pearls? Yes. Who cares? It's the only solution that makes any difference. Keep saying it. Keep building support. Don't give up. It'll take years if not decades, but again so what? Defunding is the only meaningful path. Stay on it.

15 Sure, Derek Chauvin was the victim of George Floyd's Nazi like tactics.

Reform is doomed to fail because the police think it's society that needs to reform to better accept their brutal tactics and the media has been complicit. The game is up, defund the police.

@21 Keep hugging those guns, Patriot. They can't alleviate your brain-poisoning pain, but statistically at least they're more likely to end your suffering than anyone else's.

Shorter @18:

"Show your individuality by standing up to the fascist pigs in BLM! That's what all my friends on Stormfront say we should do!"

Shorter @21:

"I had to go back 160 years to find an example of Republicans standing up to 'protect American Liberty'..."
