You surely mean "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" which I agree is a wonderful film and very progressive for its time in that it doesn't overly romanticize its lead characters' relationship. Don't pass on it just because of the dreadful sitcom that it spawned.

They must have just taken The Abyss off HBO, because I'm pretty sure I started watching it a couple weeks ago.
