So if BLM is bad and they are like the Confederacy, then Cotton is for the removal of Confederate monuments, right?

Also, Trump said he wishes Ghislaine Maxwell well, which pretty much lines her up for a pardon.

@1 No, no, property destruction is absolutely off the table.

I think the idea here is that we should wait some 40 years from now and then erect monuments to the Portland protesters all over the country in support of new laws circuitously preventing policemen from voting, and then build another batch 50 years after that to intimidate uppity cops who feel like maybe they ought to be allowed to vote after all and hey why not also go to the same schools and eat in the same restaurants as real people.

I believe that as a general principle, agents of the criminal justice system, including sheriffs, judges and prosecutors, should not be elected. It's true that in a solidly progressive city you might elect some good ones, but in most cases in most places it's all too easy for the most cynically brazen "law and order" demagogue to win. Having at least one accountability layer between candidates for such abuse-prone positions and the voters is not a cure-all but it can help weed out some of the worst aspirants. Plus, there's an implicit intimidation factor in many such elections (especially those for judge) that discourages challenges to entrenched incumbents, who can easily make life very difficult in the courtroom for uppity lawyers seeking to displace or remove them. It's too bad this proposal only involves sheriff elections, but vote yes.

@4 When the time comes to build them, many decades hence, I think the idea is that not-police supremacists will have made enough inroads into local government to get at least a few of them built on the public dime.

But sure, for the rest you just pass the hat around at your police-exclusionist church, and you're good to go I reckon.

Extended fed benefits end THIS WEEK not in August. It will be the last day of the current filing period which depending on your state is this Sun or Mon. It was a drafting mistake that lead to the July 31 date and not a date that ends with the filing period. That means July 26 or 27. Had they realized and made it Aug 2 that would have included the last week in July. The rest of the CARES act will sunset on the 31st.

It’s going to take another couple/few weeks it looks like for the Senate GOP and the administration to get it together enough to even agree on a package let alone confer with the House and hold a vote. The easy thing to do is extend the benefits and eviction and foreclosure moratoriums for another month or so while they hash this out. That would take a couple of days at most.

"Roughly 3% of people diagnosed with
COVID-19 in Washington have died."

How many have died
from covid-19 undiagnosed?
I spose that's a rhetorical query.

We Americans have a rather
interesting take on Pandemics
an assumed Immunity, apparently

or have the GOP's fake "pro"-Life lies finally sunk the Citizenry into an ever-deepening death wish cum clinical/economic/'presidential' depression?

OMG ! I just found a loophole big enough to, well, I don't know, shove a fat man through?
"I do solemly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
"BEST OF MY ABILITY" so if one is mentally ill and not very smart to start with, one can blatantly abuse the constitution and not technically be in violation of the oath of office (there is the 25th amendment however)

"Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which
may be included within this Union, according to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons." --- says nothing about being documented, even if undocumented are "other persons" you can't ignore them entirely.

"The President may not be
taking COVID-19 seriously
but at least Grey's Anatomy is."

They should have fake prez on Grey's
a former Star, he'd be great again
maybe just a few clips with the
bleach and injecting bright lites
and gargling with fabric softener
or miracle Tide pods or whatever
and how Surprised the Docktors
all are and how he really "gets it."

'They wanna take my brain out and take measurements and pix and stuff and I asked 'em, wouldn't it be better to just X-ray it -- I mean it'd take an Enormous dose to penetrate this skull, but we've got the Nuculear -- we trumpfs are well-know for having crazy thick skulls but no they're gonna take it out, massive as it is and hook it up and see how well she'll Perform. They're all really Excited about it, especially Pence, who says it's my Best Idea (so far), and there've been an awful lot of really Bad ideas so we'll just hafta wait and see... '

@9 That is all very astute and I'm sure nobody in the past 230 years has ever had any thoughts about any of it that might have been argued in appeals in a succession of courts and established any sort of legal precedent.

So like here's your law degree, congratulations, let us know when and where you'd like to take the bar exam.

Trump Admits Coronavirus Will ‘Get Worse,’ Won’t Admit Past Failings
Months into the coronavirus pandemic, the president is finally urging people to wear masks.

However, Trump later claimed that the “virus will disappear” without providing proof.

Trump's gestapo in Portland attacking people. People not going anywhere.

However, Trump later claimed that the “virus will disappear” without providing proof.

Well, we can triage getting upset over that. After all, a little optimism never hurt anybody.

16

@15 I'm sure the virus will effectively disappear, due to vaccines or treatment. Of course, that will likely be after Trump's reign comes to an end, and in spite of his best efforts.

17

@12 - precisely why i dont watch him or read his tweets anymore. He only gets so many chances to prove he’s full of shit.

18

@25 - Trump ignored the virus for months on the premise it would disappear, so optimism actually hurt a lot. By which i mean: killed at least a few extra tens of thousands of people...so far.

19

Does anyone not switch the channel whenever they see the Liar-in-Thief on the TV?

I just assume he's going to Lie and Gaslight, so I don't even bother asking why he's on the TV in the first place.

20

@19 I don't have TV so I don't watch. I read about it after the fact, preferably in a place where I don't have to look at his face. I clicked to read b/c it said he admitted it was going to get worse. And then he just reverted right back to "it will magically disappear." Yeah, after hundreds of thousands of people in this country have died and who knows how many others will suffer from life long side effects, but hey, magic! Meanwhile, I am waiting for him to magically disappear. It's the only reason I get out of bed every morning.
