The GOP has decided to let the people suffer and to allow the economy to be completely destroyed. They believe pretending they care about the debt (inflated by TRILLIONS thanks to their tax cut scam to the wealthy) while destroying the country, allowing tens of thousands to be forced into homelessness and to not give a shit about the tens of millions who have no jobs, all while spewing racism and anti-trans rhetoric is a winning platform. That's what they're going with. Seriously.

Meanwhile:
75% of registered voters in the United States are able to vote by mail. If every single registered voter who could vote by mail, did, it would be the largest turnout of registered voters since 1896. Yes, 1896. (and let's not forget that that is not even close to the number of people eligible to vote in this country, because half of the people eligible to vote in this country do not vote and/or are not registered to vote).

"Lorena González, back when the council met IRL. Today she said, " ...hm... "IRL":
Indy Racing League? Injured Reserve List? Instructional Reading Level? Ireland? Immunohematology Reference Laboratory? oh...!: Infinite Rocket Launcher
most of those being preferable to whatever it is they have been up to

3

"However, the council couldn't just keep that bill the way it was"- problems with a knee jerk spending plan? Who'd thunk it.

4

The council has been getting national attention. Much like today's Scottish train wreck.

FDR was no FDR till
We, the People MADE him so.

Perhaps Biden-Harris can somehow be Forced
to emulate the guy who got Elected
FOUR fawking Times.

Remember: WE outnumber Them
by MILLIONS (or so) to 0ne.

E Pluribus UNUM, Bitches.

@4 -- Niice house.

6

@3 -- you thunked it.

I thought you Sloggers would want Jay Inslee to know about this (maybe get the same law here?): In Illinois, it is now a felony to assault a retail worker who is enforcing face mask rules

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2020/08/11/illinois-coronavirus-assaulting-worker-enforcing-face-masks-felony/3342856001/

9

@8,

Are workers being assaulted? I've not seen any footage, though it certainly wouldn't be surprising and would seem to be a logical step in a predictable chain of progression among stupid-asses. I'd also surely not mind learning that the shithead woman from the good ol' "Freedom to Breathe Agency" is being charged with a felony and hopefully doing some hard time.

@7 Would the whole city vote on the recall, or just the district that elected her?

11

@5- that's Fallingwater by Frank Lloyd Wright. Got to tour it years ago. Amazing house.

12

@11 But like other of his more idealistic designs, it leaks and has a lot of structural problems.

One of my favorite pictures of a FLW design was the interior of a classic Prairie Style house that someone had filled with Louis XIV style furniture. lol.

13

@9: A worker at a Family Dollar was shot and killed in May for enforcing a face mask requirement. https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/04/us/michigan-security-guard-mask-killing-trnd/index.html Around the same time, an Oklahoma face mask mandate was overturned because of people berating and threatening retail workers.

14

Assaulting workers for enforcing mask violations DURING A PANfucking DEMIC Oughtta be a fawking Felony.

Does this mean the well-heeled might use them for target practice? Fuck, no. We're not Barbarians.

Way to go, Illinois!

AG Ferguson, are you paying attention?

@11 -- when your livingroom fireplace hearth is Bedrock, you know you've got something; many of Wright's projects came with a lifetime supply of pails. Didja know, the engineer of Fallingwater spec'd the wrong size reinforcement steel and they had to tear up the incredible flagstone floors to correct his mistake. Ouch.

I was at the Bainbridge Island library for their booksale and scored a healthy stack of books on Wright . . . there were several patron's comments on his (unkown by me, at the time) misogyny.

Thank God (but Not the Patriarchy) we're Finally waking the Fuck up. Perhaps those who won't are the same ones dying to sacrifice All for trumpf. The Moral Arc of the Universe, and all that....

Stop the appeals, let's get on with the Durkan recall and give the voters their chance to slap down the Council opportunists and performance artists.

17

@7:

Oh yeah, I'm sure folks are falling over themselves to cough up $25 a pop to donate to a bullshit recall campaign. What part of "a fool and his money are soon parted" is still unclear to you people?

18

@15 I think the normal way to analyze those "subcultures" is to recognize that most of them have no choice - its either go to work and get exposed, or lose their jobs, get evicted and starve to death.

21

"These are uncertain times," González said, "but I think our constituents are looking at us to take action in this period of time. We can't just freeze ourselves in amber."

"...the council goes on a weeklong recess starting next Wednesday."

Perhaps they stay on their jobs, and work out a proper solution? Because there's still no evidence we voters want to tax our jobs to feed our homeless-industrial complex.

22

@11 & 14- they're like Ferraris, better buy two cause one is always gonna be broken. Didn't know that about the flagstones, wasn't part of the tour info.

23

Poor old Tensor. You are still in that same old carousel. There is no homeless-industrial complex. Its just in your head. I say that as an unpaid homeless advocate for years. We ain’t making any money from it and that not why we do it.

24

Recall the mayor. There are many reasons and one being the brutal attacks on protestors under her regime.
