What prevents a low-income person from parking a scooter where it’s supposed to be parked? If they don’t have it together enough to follow the rules they probably shouldn’t be riding them.

What prevents a rich millionaire from parking their e-scooter in my driveway, just because they hate America?

We need geofenced return areas so they keep getting charged until it's returned to a safe spot to be charged.

I used to ride my 10 speed Schwin the 10 miles from Rossland BC to Trail BC downhill at a 7.5 degree grade.

What helmets?

Helmets are for people who can get COVID vaccines.

SCC is like a committee of high school students with their really cool ideas and utter lack of grasp of reality. Apparently the reports of fatal head injuries and numerous collisions in other cities were not enough to deter the SCCC. Walking is so last century, right? Scooters are deadly weapons, WILL be ridden on the sidewalk, are a danger to pedestrians, and are just another reason to avoid downtown Seattle, as if anyone with any sense needed another reason.

"restrict scooters on any roadway that's over 25 mph." what does that mean? posted over 25, or de facto over 25 mph? (which is of course every ordinary street and some school zones)
No sidewalks, no streets, where are people supposed to ride these things?

Also, if it is going cost say, $0.25 to wait for a red light, how many people will?

Ooooh - the presence of scooters make coming to DTWN SEA so worth it. One of my favorite moments while waiting for my bus at the 2nd Ave/Seneca (SB bus) is the following:

Red light at the intersection - Seneca St. has the right of way. Four....FOUR young guys come screaming down Seneca St. towards the water on scooters - running the red light for Seneca. Second later, just as the light changes and I see the buses/cars on 2nd gearing up to head south - two of the four do circles and figure eights right in the intersection. Oblivious to the fact the light just changed and they were about to be mowed down by a bus. They managed to get outta there by the skin of their teeth - the bus driver laid on the horn. If this is indicative of scooter riding - bring it. The Darwin Awards needs a regular stream of candidates.

Bring on the scooters!

I see a discrepancy in my post - Seneca Street DID NOT have the red light, I mean to say it changed to red very quickly at the beginnign of the story, the scooter riders lost their right of way within seconds - whether they ran the red is up for debate. What is not up for debate is how close they came to getting mowed over.

Why? Why would anyone in their right mind want these stupid, dangerous scooters in our city? Why would anyone want to try to ride one of these through ANY area of the city? I feel bad for my friends who are nurses who will have to deal with all of the idiots who crash these things, and then end up in the hospital. This is not a viable transportation option. Walk or ride the damn bus.

Why? Why would anyone in their right mind want these stupid, dangerous "horseless carriages" in our city? Why would anyone want to drive one of these through ANY area of the city? I feel bad for my friends who are nurses who will have to deal with the victims of the idiots who crash these things into people, people who then end up in the hospital (if not the morgue). I also feel bad for the orphans, widows and bereaved parents...
This is not a viable transportation option. Walk, ride a bicycle or take a hansom.

WTF? Low-income people won't get fined for improper parking? Why not just make them exempt from all parking tickets, let them park in handicapped spaces whenever they want, and remove the ban on littering for the poor?

@13
Better yet, put the scooters in Red states with a free MAGA hat for each rider. Let natural selection do the rest!

19

@18- Let's go further & make MAGA hats a legally allowable substitute for motorcycle helmets everywhere.
