RNC Features Tribute From Family Members Of Americans Who Will Die If Trump Wins Second Term

“Above all else, we wanted to use the convention to honor these brave citizens and all that they will suffer if we succeed in getting President Trump back into office,” said RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.

At press time, the RNC was airing a short sentimental tribute set to “(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life” dedicated to all 1,500,000 future victims of the pandemic after a 2020 Trump victory.

You know something. It really isn't required to smash storefronts, attack police with fireworks, set fires, smash windows, and ruin our beloved city just because there is another awful police shooting somewhere else in the world.

4

Few thoughts.

I was skimming these headlines. I came across "Africa is polio-free:," and what I saw was, "Africa is police-free." Clearly, I have been consuming too much of The Stranger lately.

I'm so thankful for the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs, the NBA playoffs, and the resumption of the MLS season. It means I have plenty of sporting background music in the evenings to keep me from switching over to the news channels. I'm afraid that if I accidentally catch even a second of the Republican National Convention, I'll turn into stone.

Instead I'm limiting myself to catching up with the RNC highlights the morning after, and all I have to say is, these caricatures of the dystopian hellscape that awaits us if Trump is defeated are way, way, way over the top. I mean, c'mon, folks, let's keep in mind we're talking about a Joe Biden-Kamala Harris administration, not a Kshama Sawant-Nikkita Oliver administration. (If you had to ask me, who's been doing a more effective job in support of the Trump reelection campaign, his former campaign manager Brad Parscale or Kshama Sawant, I'd have to say Sawant.)

P.S. I'm curious now. After Slog fixed the burner-accounts bug, we were seeing this Trumpist troll keeping on popping up in different reincarnations. Now it seems that that troll is no longer popping up anymore. Is it too soon to celebrate?

Must be due to all of our terrifying, terrible, terrorist socializms. My gawd they'll be just giving condos and houses away, cats and dogs--living together IN SIN!!! And after a full decade of being America's fastest growing islamocommunistvegetarian city. Boo!!!

Study: Seattle is No. 1 real estate market among large U.S. cities

"A new report has found that Seattle ranks No. 1 for the health of its real estate market among all large cities in the U.S., based on a wide variety of criteria.

The report ranked the health of real estate markets in U.S. cities based on 24 criteria, from median home-price appreciation to home sales turnover rate to job growth.

Based on those critera, Seattle had a score of 67.77 out of a possible 100 - the highest score of any large city with more than 300,000 population, and the second highest among all cities of all sizes."

About that 5% of Republicans number, it might not actually be a sign that Biden is doing worse. The GOP keeps shrinking. There are a ton of voters who used to identify as Republicans and now either say they're independents or have outright switched parties. In other words, Biden might be getting fewer proclaimed Republicans, but he might be getting as many or more voters who lean right.

10

Blake wasn’t “reportedly shot”. He was actually shot.

11

@3 Raindrop,
You have a point. I agree. That behavior doesn't help Jacob Blake heal. In fact, after reading about and seeing the images of Kenosha, WI on fire and being destroyed, I thought cynically, "Joe Biden & the Dems just lost Wisconsin." This kind of mayhem is senseless. Especially, when we don't have all the facts surrounding that shooting. The whole situation is unfortunate.

I do wish Mr. Blake well BTW. And I want Kenosha to heal also.

13

If they are marching down the hill and back up again and not signing about the Grand Old Duke of York they are really missing out

15

Oh sure, yet another in a seemingly endless list of names is added to the "POC shot by police for no fucking reason", but the REAL outrage is a few broken windows and tossed firecrackers. Why can't the protesters just stand quietly on the sidewalk with their placards (signs with sticks are obvs weapons and should be discouraged) and stop making all the whypeepoh so uncomfortable? How are you supposed to get whypeepoh on-board with your protest if you keep breaking shit whypeepoh care about way more than some stranger's life?

16

A Socialist Utopia.

The definition of utopia is a perfect place. So they're warning us that Joe Biden will turn America into a perfect place.

17

@7, @12: the Stranger is hesitant to say or do anything that actually supports Biden, except in a “by default” kind of way. They are still butt-hurt that Sanders is not the nominee.

18

So of the few baristas who have a job these days, those who were going to work today at that smashed up store are probably also heartbroken and mad as hell about Jacob Blake. They will likely have reduced earnings this pay period and a big mess to help clean up.

But they heroically accept this suffering. They are the real angels, because they inherently symbolize the evil corporate overlords and atone for all the sins of greed and wealth and white supremacy for all of Seattle. They do it with the utmost heroism and sense of duty. Truly commendable.

19

It whips ass that the party with all the guns and Kevin Sorbos is terrified that the party with all the tofu and compost bins and lgbtq will murder them.

@ 19,

Donald Trump and America's sad, failed model of masculinity

"The pathetic attempt to project a Herculean image by forgoing medical care has reached its apotheosis in the anti-mask crusade. There is a tragicomic disconnect between the way these men believe they look, and the way that reasonable people perceive them. As they struggle to show strength, they expose their weakness and insecurity.

Given that the "tough people," including Trump himself, appear as frightened as kittens in a thunderstorm at the mere thought of women holding power, black families moving into suburban neighborhoods or Mexicans crossing the southern border, their posturing and preening, unlike their pandemic behavior, is the ultimate mask. The motorcycles, the guns and the eagerness to violate "political correctness" fail to conceal their obvious insecurity and frailty.

Donald Trump is the ultimate symbol of the sad (pathetic, failed) state of American manhood."

21

Portland and Chicago are lovely places. Have you ever been?

25

@21,
Someone saying "Biden's gonna turn this place into a utopia," my response would be "great!" I would love to live in a utopia, if there were such a place. Who wouldn't?

Their attack is a compliment. I'm not sure they know what the word "utopia" means.

28

@25: Don't Star Trek episodes teach us that utopias tend to be limited, boring, and authoritarian?

31

@28,
Those were all false utopias. Just calling something perfect doesn't make it so. Just like the Soviet Union. Everyone called it a communist nation when in reality it never was.

33

@25,

One of those dipshits could stand in front of a camera and read the user manual from an old washing machine and team piglord would rave and cheer wildly about the tyrannical left, and their efforts to destroy the middle class. What part of "Keep America Great Again" don't you understand!?!

34

So much weeping and gnashing of teeth over a few broken windows and some firecrackers! Oh, the humanity! Whatever will we do if the yucky protesters keep kicking over the trashcans?

What about this guy who was shot 7 times by police, in the back, while his kids watched? Which is worse, broken windows and firecrackers downtown or your dad being shot in the back by the cops while you watch? Do you think those kids are going to have a positive view of the police? Of white people? Of the USA, in general?

Why are we so cruel as a nation?

And does it not strike you as maybe a little bit disingenuous that every time we start to point out that police are paid a LOT of money and lavishly funded in their work and maybe we should look at spending some of those resources elsewhere, that the response from them is some variant on, "Nice little town you have here. It would be a real shame if something were to happen to it."

You know what keeps people out of jail? Universal preschool, adequate nutrition, and a low-stress childhood. These are the same things that lead to successful adult lives. And they're all cheaper than the cops.

36

@18:

Those minimum wage-earning baristas probably don't give two shits about a few windows their employer will pay to replace (or more correctly have their insurance company pay to replace) before the end of business today. Plus, think of all the gainful employment and revenue going to the insurance and glass replacement companies - why do you hate stimulating the economy?

38

@36: Amazing the extrapolations and projections you go through to provide excuses for vandalism and violence. I've heard that what's-a-few-smashed-windows spin before and it just doesn't hold up to the morality test.

41

It's clear Republicans do not know the meaning of socialism or utopia.

It's also clear that too many people do not understand that no matter what one has done or is doing in the moment, being killed by the police is not acceptable. 99% of Black people killed by police are killed for simply EXISTING (and existing WITHOUT A WEAPON).

Looting has nothing to do with protesting the way policing has nothing to do with brutality and murder. See how that works?

The cop in Wisconsin shot Jacob Blake in the back SEVEN TIMES. Jacob Blake who had just diffused a domestic violence incident and was getting into his car, where his children were waiting for him. Jacob Blake is alive. He is paralyzed, but he is alive. I hope Wisconsin funds the rest of his entire life and the lives of all of his children. I also hope the cop that shot him at point blank range in the back SEVEN TIMES, goes to prison and rots there for the rest of his life. Those are the only things in this case that even come close to justice.

All of the white mass murderers who don't turn their own guns on themselves have been taken alive. White men who are shooting at police are taken alive. Cops are capable of taking everyone alive. They choose not to do so. That in itself should mandate that anytime a cop shoots a person they need to be fired and prosecuted. If they kill someone after shooting them, they should be put in prison for killing someone. Period. No more bullshit.

42

All of the costs of damage causes during protests does not even come close to all of the costs of damage of lives taken and destroyed by the cops in this country who have murdered black people and assaulted/tear gassed/harassed/arrested/otherwise harmed people protesting their brutality (or protesting land rights or against pipelines on sacred land or against children in cages or against war or the treasonous malfeasance of the resident in the White House or against anything else people in this country, exercising their First Amendment rights, have protested).

Not even close. No amount of looting comes close to what has been taken.

43

@40: Yes, it's predictable that "morality" would make you unglued. Let's start with the basics:

Is it moral to destroy property that is not yours?

It's a simple binary question. The default answer is no. Arguably, if Trump wins and (all of a sudden lefties will LOVE the 2nd amendment) we may need to start a revolution. But revolutions are quite different indeed than our topic-of-the-month protests we've been suffering in Portland and Seattle all summer long. Property damage in these riots are totally gratuitous, only hurt our own (mostly liberal lefty community), and costs jobs and wages.

@42: No xina, you can't compare apples (riot damage that can be calculated in dollars and cents) with police brutality (oranges) even if you think your clever enough to do so.

44

@22 Original Andrew and @41 xina for the tied WIN!

Flush the Turd November 3rd
And anyone Rootin' for Vladimir Putin!

@43: xina tells it like it IS, Rainy. Stop sniffing hydroxycholoquine, sweetie.
