Watching a coup in slow motion is surreal. Oh well, at least it's being orchestrated by the law and order guy.

2

And, remember, if you're a white male voter, you won't have any problems at all, so you should probably just forget about voting for Trump, since all is well and there is no way turnout will be 90-98% of all voters in Washington State. Ignore all the people you see using secure dropboxes, go back to sleep, grandpa.

3

Of course, the USPS didn't help things much with their one-size-fits-all mailer last week, reminding everyone to request a mail-in ballot.

6

@5 There has never been any sign of fraud in any mail-in election in Washington state.

7

@6 Maybe not (although absence of evidence certainly isn't evidence of absence), it seems much more likely that the most significant proportions of fraudulent votes would occur in more critical states. Check this out for a plausible accounting of how incidents of voter fraud occured at the polling locations themselves: http://www.fantasticalandrewfox.com/2012/11/28/watching-the-sausage-get-made/ and ask yourself if it is impossible that this could take place in Washington.

8

Remember that posts like @7 are designed to make you fearful, and ignore your thinking brain which knows that Washington Oregon California elections are actually very very safe and very very accurate.

Vote early if you can. Return your ballot properly and track it, follow all the instructions from your County elections office, and you'll be fine.

9

I don't think anyone necessarily needs to be fearful, even if there do end up being instances of fraud, as there isn't anything stopping President Trump from appointing his Supreme Court nominee before the election, who would then presumably be able to responsibly litigate any irregularities that may occur.

As far as voting early, of course that's an option, but for me personally I've always felt: wouldn't you at least like to see the debates first?

this geezer's dying to know: a debate between a Geezer and a Corrupt, Mendacious Lunatic Geezer is gonna make a difference in who one Votes for?

PTBarnum was right.

11

It's simply a fact: the voter who waits longer will have more information available to them. Imagine this: a last minute revelation by a source such as Wikileaks. At that point, the only recourse to an hasty or ill-considered vote would be, God forbid, some nefarious action by a postal worker.

got any Pre-Existing Conditions, JP?

from the nyt:

Trump Says He Will ‘Always’
Protect Those With Pre-
Existing Conditions.
He Hasn’t.

The president’s promises on health care stand in stark contrast with his legislative, regulatory and legal record.

President Trump may have some other policy idea in mind to protect Americans with pre-existing health conditions.

But there is no evidence from his record.

Nearing four years into his presidential term, he has repeatedly promised to release a comprehensive health plan, then declined to do so.

He and his staff are often asked about how he will fulfill this promise, and have offered no specific reply. If protecting pre-existing conditions is a priority of the president, it’s not clear why his strategy is still a secret.

This Election is different -- we have a Fake 'President' intent on sabotaging this Election -- to keep his Criminal ass outta Jail, regardless of the Cost to our little Democracy. Speaking of, this, from Democracy Now!:

AMY GOODMAN: On Thursday afternoon, independent Senator Bernie Sanders spoke out, responding to Trump’s remarks.

SEN. BERNIE SANDERS: I think it is terribly important that we actually listen to and take seriously what Donald Trump is saying.

Several weeks ago, speaking at the Republican National Convention, Trump said — and I quote — “The only way they can take this election away from us is if this is a rigged election,” end of quote.

What is remarkable about that statement is that he made it at a time when almost every national poll had him behind and when he was trailing in polls in most battleground states.

Think about what that statement means. Think hard about what that statement means.

What he is saying is that if he wins the election, that’s great, but if he loses, it’s rigged, because the only way — the only way he can lose is if it’s rigged.

And if it’s rigged, then he is not leaving office. Heads, I win; tails, you lose. In other words, in Trump’s mind, there is no conceivable way that he should leave office.

In this unprecedented moment what can we as a people do in the struggle to preserve American democracy?

First, it is absolutely imperative that we have, by far, the largest voter turnout in American history and that people vote as early as possible.

As someone who is strongly supporting Joe Biden, let’s be clear: A landslide victory for Biden will make it virtually impossible for Trump to deny the results, and is our best means for defending democracy.

Second, with the pandemic and a massive increase in mail-in voting, state legislatures must take immediate action now — now — to allow mail-in votes to be counted before Election Day, as they come in. In fact, 32 states allow for the counting or processing of absentee ballots — verifying signatures, for example — before Election Day.

All states should do the same. The faster all ballots are counted, the less window there is for chaos and conspiracy theories.

Third, the news media needs to prepare the American people to understand there is no longer a single Election Day and that it is very possible that we may not know the results on November 3rd.
