White House housekeepers test positive for COVID-19 after virus continues to spread

The support staff in the White House mansion are starting to test positive for COVID-19 after the president, first lady, and the staff in the West Wing has spread the virus around the building.

The New York Times‘ Maggie Haberman explained that two housekeepers have tested positive. They reportedly didn’t come in contact with the president or the first family, which is concerning as it means the virus has spread through the building.

Trump’s team frequently doesn’t wear masks in public nor do they wear them inside the halls of the White House. They assumed that because they are tested daily, they are safe.

The Coronavirus Task Force and the CDC told people to wear masks for exactly this reason.

“When their tests came back positive, they were told to use ‘discretion’ in discussing it,” said Haberman.

The housekeepers certainly won’t get the same standard of medical care that Trump did at Walter Reed.

There was a great volatility with the Clinton/Trump race. Clinton was way up after the "pussy grabbing" tape, and way down after Comey notified Congress that the FBI was investigating Clinton for the emails again. That last bombshell happened right before the end of the race.

The same thing could happen again, but I doubt it will. There was no "October surprise" with Obama in either of his elections. Compared to Obama eight years ago, Biden looks very strong.

If things hold, the real nail-biter will be the Senate. Things were looking great until Cunningham sent his romantic texts to another woman. He might still hang on to win, but it might be close (there and in Iowa and Montana). If the Democrats win a majority in the Senate, then they can make real, important change (I would start with D. C. statehood). If not, then Biden will be hamstrung by a system that favors some voters over others.

@42 like I said, there are exceptions to every rule. I am Gen X. I grew up in the '80s, went to college in the '90s and have been far left liberal my entire life. Of course I grew up poor, never made as much money as promised given I got a college education, became disabled at the age of 35 (so I've seen first hand twice now - through work and volunteerism I did as an able bodied person and through being a disabled person relying on social security (and after the two year waiting period) medicare and witnessing how those who are disabled (people who have it far worse than me) are treated in this country has only made me more liberal/progressive, if that's possible.

I've been believing the GOP would die for a long time and yet every generation there are the young white people who want their privilege and will do whatever they can to protect it. Until there are no Republicans under the age of 40 the GOP will not go extinct. Our only hope is that even if they continue to exist, they remain such a minority that they are never able to hold power again until they truly die.

The point is, a lot of those attitudes evaporated over times. Some of the same folks who hated Nixon ended up voting for Trump (even though they were obviously cut from the same cloth). Maybe not a lot -- left wing activists were always a minority. They have been a minority (among white people) in every age group for the last fifty years, although they reached a zenith during the 60s and early 70s -- the last time the Democrats nominated someone who was openly considered a leftist. He was destroyed, of course, because most of the country is white, and most white people are conservative.

McGovern lost the under-30 vote (although just barely, while Nixon dominated every other age demographic). Carter won those under-30 both times, then things began to shift. In 1984 and 1988, those under thirty voted right with the rest of the country (Republican). That didn't swing back until the late 90s. But much of the more recent change has more to do with racial demographics than anything (although Obama was particularly popular amongst those under 30).

The problem is, most white voters suck. That is why we've had shitty presidents, and shitty representatives for a long time now. Since 1972, Democratic candidates have got over 80% of the vote. 80%! McGovern would have won in a landslide if it wasn't for the stupid-ass white people. The main reason that young people appear more left leaning now is because there aren't so many young white people. That will only continue, which is why the country will move to the left as (Non-Hispanic) white people become a minority.
