I got into this series through the audiobooks, which are largely read by James Marsters (aka Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and he makes such a fantastic Harry. Highly recommend going that route if reading a physical copy isn't in the cards...

I've read them all - and the various shorter stores that are part of collections (which are particularly interesting when you know the characters since the collections have to follow a particular theme - like, one is written by Dresden's half brother). My only complaint is that Jim Butcher has moved on to a different fantasy series and there will be no more Dresden File chapters...

@jaymz, the most recent two books were released this year, with Battle Ground coming out less than a month ago. Jim has also said he had a plan for the Dresden series from the beginning, so it really doesn't seem like Dresden has been abandoned by Jim Butcher as you claim.

I've read all of the Dresden Files after getting into them ~15 years ago. I feel like it should be pointed out that the early books are fairly misogynist; all the women are two-dimensional characters without internal motivations or any apparent reason to exist in the story except to be a love interest or foil for the protagonist. The protagonist who seems to have a 1950s-crime-noir view of women.

In a semi-defense of Butcher, he seems to have recognized this and the later books are better in their representation of women (though not of any non-cishet characters that I can remember), and in moderating Dresden's misogyny from "let me save the helpless little lady" to "I trust her with my life but also hold doors for her".

Bottom line, they're enjoyable popcorn reads if you're into that kind of thing and also can be a good reminder of the kind of sexism that was completely acceptable not all that long ago.
