I don’t think the American Male has been made compatible with Democracy. He grows up looking at Sports as his model for success, where Coach My-Way or the Highway barks "there's no 'I' in 'team.'" If he’s lower middle class he might enlist in the military to get a leg up on a rigged economy, and sees Democracy either openly scorned there, or emptily idolized like Franco's army idolized Jesus while murdering and raping their way through the countryside. He either gets a corporate job or starts his own business, and sees no democracy whatsoever there either. Democracy would be a wrench thrown into all of those systems, which is made threateningly clear to him if he were incautious enough to advocate it . Success is a matter of Getting Results and Gaming the System (and the American bros all saw how Donald Trump got his results by gaming the system). It's not masculinity that's toxic: it's a corrupt system that's poisoned masculinity so as to be a means to its ends.

BINGO, KewGCF.

that same systemic slavish devotion to
the Almight Buck also has its eye fixated
on the Womenfolk and co-opting their Wiles.

@5. So what? Are you chiding Mr. Mudede for being a late bloomer? That seems a trifle trite.

@5. When life hits, you may find yourself back coping with things like you were 12 years old.

Everyone needs a good cry now and then, especially manly men!
Agreed!

Nice article. Sweet picture. Hard to imagine anyone would find anything wrong with it, but I guess there are a lot of assholes in the world. Tough to lose a kid, let alone two (and a wife). Not surprising Joe is holding on so tight to his remaining son.
