Nope, if you mask up and follow CDC guidelines, you can keep many, but not all, things open. It’s better than full in European style lockdown. Seattle has a 1% positivity rate to Tulsas 12% for example. WE. WEAR. MASKS.

Seattle Schools “announcement?” LOL. If you follow any social media chatter, it’s clear schools will be staying closed through the school year. They’ve even got a remote schooling task force and working on piloting outdoor classes in that glacial pacing of the school district that you know we’ll be lucky to go back to buildings next fall. Try to keep up!

Anyone have any guesses what (else) is wrong with Bitch McCONjob?

He just looks ghastly and undead, and he’s refusing to answer any questions about his health.

Could be his imminent demise is the reason he’s hellbent on taking so many Americans to the grave with him.

Best explanation seen online: “The Kremlin puts dye packs in their money.”

@1 For all our masks and hand-washing, both cases and deaths are rising in Washington State. It just hasn't been enough.

We're still missing key components you'll find in countries that have succeeded in stopping transmission: broad-sample testing, case isolation, and contact tracing. Testing has improved, but we're still pretty much only testing people with symptoms and medical staff. That's not enough when you have widespread undetected community spread. The only cases we're isolating when we discover infections are the subset of the homeless population we put up in quarantine motels when they get sick. And contact tracing is a joke here-- most of us won't even answer the phone these days if we don't recognize the number, thanks to our unregulated telemarketing industry.

The US has around 700 COVID-19 deaths per 1M population so far, and it's still rising.

WA has 300 and counting.

New Zealand has 5.

China has 3.

Yesterday there were 18 new cases in China, a country of 1,400,000,000 people living in enormous dense cities. There were 19 in Walla Walla county, where the 30,000 residents of its largest city, Walla Walla, constitute more than half the population.

Rudi claimed in a tweet he was "tucking in his shirt." How does a disgusting, elderly pervert tuck in his shirt? View the clip.

For an ostensibly accomplished lawyer, that's gotta be among his more embarrassing attempts to mount a defense.

6

@5 No, thank you.

I'll take your word for it. But feel free to go ahead and watch the clip again in my stead, if we're worried there's someone out there keeping a score of some sort.

7

@5: Looks like she was helping Rudy unbutton his shirt or jacket to initiate something.

Again, poor Rudy.

8

As to that murder hornet nest, I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit; it's the only way to be sure.

9

@8
Sadly Morty, it's coming to this -
"We had to nuke the planet in order to save it!"

10

they only way we'll probably miss 'em by miles, plus, haven't you seen what happens when the Nukular meets terrrifying stinging insects? specially ones with the word Murder in its name? they'll be carting off herds from the stockyards before they're finished. buses, full of people..... oh the Horror. Nah -- NO Nukes, Morty.

11

Thank you, Chase, for posting the thorough clip from the Stranger's hosted Berry-Reyneveld debate; very valuable for voters to hear directly from the candidates, to cut through any 3rd party spin. Voters can likewise do their own fact checking of the "lazy" government employee spat by viewing the BDC candidate forum on youtube, starting at the 1:18:00 mark : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hj_wxJNAi7c&feature=youtu.be&t=149

12

@7, poor poor Rudy. I bet his dementia is why he forgot to comply with those subpoenas last year. You really love that Law and Order party don't you?

13

@2 - wondering if he was hospitalized for some reason and had to have an IV in his hand? Wasn't he out of the public view for a bit recently?

@3 - the City is doing free testing now at the old auto emissions stations and it's pretty convenient. Results usually back in about a day and a half.

14

@13 As I said, testing has improved. But only testing people with symptoms is less than what we need to get undetected community transmission under control.

Not that that bothers you, I imagine? At this point what started as a bit of reflexive contrarianism on the right-wing fringe has metastasized into full-throated mainstream Republican support for herd culling.

15

@13 I'm sure we'll find out after Barrett is confirmed that more people caught covid from her garden klan party than revealed. Mitch and Lindsey would certainly lie about it to keep the confirmation on track. Lindsey even refused a covid test before he debated Harrison.

Those could also be the hands of someone on bood thinners due to congestive heart failure. Whatever it is, I hope it hurts. He has arguably been the most evil and dangerson in our government for decades.

16

*and dangerous person

17

That has to be another example of someone on his staff fucking with him and supporters, right? To be blasting "Fortunate Son" at a Trump rally? Right? RIGHT?! They can't ALL be THAT stupid... can they?

@7: If anything, it's Rudy's cousin-wife you should be pitying, not that cheating ghoul for getting caught.

18

@17: Yes, poor - poor - pitiful Rudy Giuliani. A creature sautéed in corruption and depravity. So why the indulgence in exploiting his weaknesses with a sting for tee-tee entrainment value for myopic woke libs who have a proclivity for prurient filth?

19

Hey Chase, re: "calling a spade a spade." Please don't. https://www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2013/09/19/224183763/is-it-racist-to-call-a-spade-a-spade

20

@18 -- I liked your projections better when they weren't 'quite' so word-salady. Good luck!

21

@20. Yeah, the sentence should have ended at '... entertainment value?'.

@19: Should an unfortunate connotation forever corrupt a centurys-old idiom?

23

@21- Oh we could have a gay old time dissecting that one. But I suspect you are being rather niggardly in your indignation.

24

@22: "Rudy getting a taste of his own medicine. "

I would agree if it didn't originate from a fabricated premise.

26

@23: You must have had 2 extra shots of espresso already.

28

@24:

You hypocritical, mendacious gobshites are always fabricating premises - now you know what it feels like to be served sauce with your goose...

@19

Thanks, I appreciate that.

32

@19 pbo, I'm very much for discontinuing the use of terms and phrases that are objectively and reasonably understood to be insensitive, but it's a fine line between being sensitive to how words make others feel, and scrubbing our lexicon of any word that was appropriated in some bad way by some bad people at some point in time.

We are so quick to give all the power to those who are all too willing to abuse it. It's sad that we can never seem to be content with sticking to the spirit and context with which words are used, and must take it beyond all logic and reason.

33

@32

You go ahead and flash that OK sign, then.

34

@32 seatackled, exactly my point.

We let the Republicans/RWNJ's run the show. And then we react and adjust to it.

We even do it here in these comment sections where we're all too content to let the trolls set the discussion agenda and then spend our time reacting to their narrative.

Speaking of trolls (and trolling):

Obama Slams Trump in Florida, as President Courts Suburbs

Barack Obama joined a drive-in rally in Miami, where he delivered one of his most visceral and high-decibel attacks on President Trump.

For years, President Trump trolled Barack Obama. On Saturday, the former president returned the favor — with an ear-to-ear smile and, at times, raw-nerve rage.

Mr. Obama, popping up in Florida just as Mr. Trump arrived in West Palm Beach to cast his vote, slammed his successor for his response to the coronavirus pandemic, “fumbling” the economy, opening a hidden bank account in China, threatening to sell Puerto Rico, musing about killing the virus with bleach and once floating the idea of blasting hurricanes with nuclear weapons.

“Florida Man wouldn’t even do this stuff! Why do we accept it from the president of the United States?” Mr. Obama asked during a drive-in rally in Miami to support Joseph R. Biden — hours after Mr. Trump voted for himself.

'Florida man.'
that's our trumpf.

41

“He wants full credit for the economy he inherited and zero blame for the pandemic,” Mr. Obama said, shouting over the sound of honking horns.

“Like everything he inherited, he fumbled it,” he said of the pandemic-stricken economy, comparing Mr. Trump to Herbert Hoover, the Republican president who was in office during the start of the Great Depression.

In a pitch to Puerto Rican voters who live in Florida, Mr. Obama also criticized the president for his response to the island, which has been struck by hurricanes and an earthquake in the past few years.

“When a hurricane devastates Puerto Rico, a president is supposed to help them rebuild, not toss paper towels.”

Several Pence Aides Test Positive for Coronavirus

Members of Vice President Mike Pence’s inner circle, including his chief of staff, tested positive for the virus, people briefed on the matter said. Six states reported record virus numbers, and Dr. Anthony Fauci suggested the U.S. might need a national mask mandate.

Mr. Pence’s decision to continue campaigning, despite his proximity to his chief of staff, is certain to raise fresh questions about how seriously the White House is taking the risks to its staff members and to the public as the pandemic has killed nearly 225,000 people in the United States.

[um -- they seem to just want us all Dead.]

Mr. Trump, at rallies over the past two days, has insisted the country is “rounding the turn” on the virus, even though the single-day record for new cases was shattered on Friday.

Pope Francis Appoints First African-American Cardinal
By Elizabeth Dias and Jason Horowitz
Oct. 25, 2020

WASHINGTON — Pope Francis on Sunday named Wilton Gregory, the archbishop of Washington, a cardinal, elevating the first African-American to the Catholic church’s highest governing body, a groundbreaking act in a year when demands for racial justice have consumed the country.

The rise of Archbishop Gregory, who is also the first American named to the College of Cardinals since 2016, comes as debates over how to address the legacy of slavery and racism have extended to the Catholic church, which for centuries excluded African Americans from positions of power.

“By naming Archbishop Wilton Gregory as a Cardinal, Pope Francis is sending a powerful message of hope and inclusion to the Church in the United States,” Archbishop José H. Gomez, the president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, said in a statement.

The move is the latest sign that, seven years into his papacy, Pope Francis continues to redirect the church toward greater acceptance of those on the margins.
