We're still missing key components you'll find in countries that have succeeded in stopping transmission: broad-sample testing, case isolation, and contact tracing. Testing has improved, but we're still pretty much only testing people with symptoms and medical staff. That's not enough when you have widespread undetected community spread. The only cases we're isolating when we discover infections are the subset of the homeless population we put up in quarantine motels when they get sick.
