And the slime avalanche rols on.

2

Well, Trump remains firm in the believe he will not be in prison himself, so he's got to pardon his partners in crime so he has people to hang out with (there is more crime to be done, amiright)?

3

Cocaine lovers everywhere mourn the passing of the great Diego Maradona. Truly one of the monster imbibers of all time.
And no slouch in the drinking department either, many of his records in the bars of Naples and Buenos Aires still stand.
In his later years he became a tiresome prick (an all-too common fate), but in his youth (Ah, his youth!... those vanished days...) he was known as a good friend to the Cuban revolution, an implacable foe to British imperialism, and a very exciting soccer player as well.
To Diego!!

Happy Thanksgiving Jasmyne! See you on the other side!

The odds just two weeks ago of catching COVID at Thanksgiving were HALF what they are now.

But, the chance of one person having COVID-19 in a gathering of 5: 11%

WAY WAY BETTER THAN:
Chance of one person having COVID-19 in a gathering of 10: 26%
Chance of one person having COVID-19 in a gathering of 15: 36%
Chance of one person having COVID-19 in a gathering of 20: 44%

Mask up, Wash Hands, Try to limit exposure to 6 feet or more with open windows for 15 minutes or less when your mask is not fully covering mouth and nose. The virus doesn't care how your nose feels about wearing a mask.

Consider doing the eating part outside if you can, or at least the drinking. Which you should NOT do (drink) as that affects your judgement and increases your risk dramatically.

My extended family has a Thanksgiving and Birthday Zoom call this year with somewhere between 25 and 100 people. And everyone else is just having family dinners in person.

Only an 18% chance of 1 in 10 having it in my county. I guess I should be grateful that's all it is considering this is the deep rube country of north Idaho. GF and I are just doing Thanksgiving ourselves this year, so we should be close to 0% (allowing for possibility 1 of us unknowingly has it anyway, of course).

@6, cont'd:
In a dissenting opinion on Wednesday, Chief Justice Roberts said the court had acted rashly.

“Numerical capacity limits of 10 and 25 people, depending on the applicable zone, do seem unduly restrictive,” he wrote. “It is not necessary, however, for us to rule on that serious and difficult question at this time.”

In a second dissent, Justice Sonia Sotomayor, joined by Justice Elena Kagan, said Mr. Cuomo’s restrictions were sensible.

“Free religious exercise is one of our most treasured and jealously guarded constitutional rights,” she wrote. “States may not discriminate against religious institutions, even when faced with a crisis as deadly as this one. But those principles are not at stake today.”

“The Constitution does not forbid states from responding to public health crises through regulations that treat religious institutions equally or more favorably than comparable secular institutions, particularly when those regulations save lives,” Justice Sotomayor wrote. “Because New York’s Covid-19 restrictions do just that, I respectfully dissent.”

Mr Chief Justice

Lost your Court

too Bad you stood by and

eh?

10

I thought Flynn was innocent? Innocent people dont get pardoned.

11

@9 - Not sure what Roberts could have done to prevent the court packing.

more from the nyt:
Frontline health care workers have been the one constant, the medical soldiers forming row after row in the ground war against the raging spread of the coronavirus. But as cases and deaths shatter daily records, foreshadowing one of the deadliest years in American history, the very people whose life mission is caring for others are on the verge of collective collapse.

In interviews, more than two dozen frontline medical workers described the unrelenting stress that has become an endemic part of the health care crisis nationwide. Many related spikes in anxiety and depressive thoughts, as well as a chronic sense of hopelessness and deepening fatigue, spurred in part by the cavalier attitudes of many Americans who seem to have lost patience with the pandemic.

13

@11

Not rule against the Civil Rights Act.

14

@12 - Well, he could have, but McConnell doesn't answer to him when it comes to filling SC vacancies. So, again...

@13 - Do you mean the Voting Rights Act? That didn't have any bearing on the Dotard's election, as he won in the rust belt, states I don't believe were under VRA monitoring. There were simply more hate-filled racists in this country than we imagined, and they showed up like never before for their cult leader. It's as simple as that.

15

I'm still waiting to see and hear about what the New York State Attorney General, New York State Police, and Washington State's AG, Bob Ferguson, among others do when Trumpty Dumpty is finally dragged out of the White Trash House now that GSA Administrator Emily Murphy has given the President and Vice President-elect Biden / Harris team the go-ahead to proceed with the transition into the Oval Office.

Meanwhile, Griz is staying inside, being a homebody for Thanksgiving.
I'm glad I have no need to fly anywhere---the COVID-19 pandemic and Boeing KKKorporate greed pretty much took care of that, especially with the reinstating of their horrifically defective killer 737 MAX models. Profit$ over people.

Just did our extended family Thanksgiving Zoom call and I was surprised to find out one of our relatives has moved to Wallingford while at the UW. Small world.

Virus infections via Zoom Turkey are very very very low.

20

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I like to think about it as an idea rather than celebrating an ancient event that's mired in historical controversy, that idea being family and loved ones and delicious food.

”Midnight Ruling Exposes Rifts at Supreme Court Transformed by Trump

The justices issued six opinions, several of them unusually bitter, [*] in upholding challenges from churches and synagogues to state pandemic restrictions. The ruling was almost certainly a taste of things to come, with Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s support for religious freedom likely to play a major role."

26

@14

Yes, the Voting Rights Act, thanks. I guess I can't really say. Do you think Clinton could have won some of the southern states if they hadn't started suppressing votes? Georgia, for instance, should have been a blue state in 2018, if not earlier.

27

"he plans to turn over much of his public-facing work to his sister Devitta Briscoe"... the fuck does he (Andre Taylor) even do?
And Renton Red Lion residents are making a pretty good case for tossing them out as one of them tried to set the building on fire and everyone had to evacuate, what a Happy Thanksgiving; but hey none of them caught covid I guess?

28

Well Diaper Don seems to have finally passed from denial into the anger stage, lashing out and lashing out some more.
Soon we get to the bargaining stage, and this promises to be good Shakespearean fun.
The man is in real legal peril.
And he no longer has much to offer, outside of empty threats.
So we will be treated to the spectacle of him imploring those same timorous Senators who lately had their nose up his ass to defend and protect him as they silently turn their backs and feign deafness.

30

@26 - Nah, their margin of victories for Trump was sufficiently great that voter suppression or the lack of it wouldn't have mattered...except maybe in GA. But GA wouldn't have been enough to tip the election to Clinton anyway even if it went for her.

We just have to face the fact that we currently have a critical mass of racist assholes in this country to elect Trump or Trumpian assholes who are just like them.

32

so, why was it you far far FAR righty tighty whiteys Sabotaged America by electing trumpf?

"if only to irritate irascible, disaffected Demoncrats and misguided, anti-constitutional progressives." --Auntie Fasci

yeah. 'cause Who needs a stupid Country?

33

@10 - correct! Innocent people don't get pardoned. Flynn is doubling down on admitting his guilt by accepting the pardon. The best part, though, and what I think Trump didn't think all the way through, is that now that Flynn no longer faces any criminal liability, he will not be able to take the 5th if called to testify against Trump or others. A judge could toss his ass in the clink for contempt until he does.

@27 - I was initially really pissed when I read that Renton was trying to get the homeless shelter out of their city. The general problem here in Seattle is made far worse than it should be because the other cities in the county are not doing their part.

However, I believe that it was the Morrison Hotel crowd that got moved to that Red Lion. They are a pretty, um, "challenging bunch." Anyone who's waited for a bus in front of the courthouse downtown is probably familiar with and appalled by their antics. I don't know how many fights I have seen there, Including one resident whacking another with a metal crutch, along with garbage all over, poop on the sidewalk, and threats to passersby. It may be that they just wore out their welcome in Renton.
