Widespread high speed rail isn’t going to happen. If it were viable private enterprise would have done it already. The need is mass transit for population centers, power grid, water, communications infrastructure and roads. Roads are how goods get to market. That’s not going to change. It’s commuting trips that need to be reduced. Indirectly the pandemic has helped in that many workplaces will remain work from home. Not because it gets commuters off the road but because it shifts the cost of that employee’s office and communication.

As for complicity, yes, when you take the oath of public office, you - an inevitably flawed human being - agree to take part in an inevitably flawed institutional design. If you won't be complicit, you really should stay outside and write high-handed opinion pieces.

And have these women in fact been silenced? Have they in fact been erased? And by whom? The 6-3 female city council? The 5-2 female school board? In a city predominantly represented by females in judicial office and federal elected positions?

By not issuing a TRO from the bench it doesn’t bode well for the plaintiff. This is a trespass case. It’s not legal to live in the park but the plaintiff is making the case her due process rights are being violated by the sweep in that she stands to lose her property. I think that’s a tough ask considering they have been given notice and provided with options for other accommodations.

My guess from reading the judge’s comments is that they’ll allow the clearing but make the city do more to store and keep the belongings so they may be more easily retrieved. Hopefully this ends better than CHOP did.

@17, It seems not. Remote learning has been a disaster for younger kids. Since young kids don't seem to transmit the virus, yes, please start school for those under 10 or so. The biggest risk teachers face turns out to be from mingling with other teachers, which shouldn't be too hard to prevent. Also, maybe get remote learning working properly for older kids. Seattle has done abysmally compared with other schools.
