@1:

When properly trained and socialized Pitties are just as reliable and affectionate as any other breed of dog, and in fact make excellent service animals due to their strength (they can actually pull a wheel chair), loyalty, and intuitive natures.

As for the COVID bill, I predict we'll see at least a dozen tweets in the next week where he congratulates himself for signing the bill he previously opposed, and taking credit for pressuring the Democrats into removing things that were never in it in the first place.

And of course his death-cult of true-believers will eat up every word like he was handing them a pile of shit on Wonder Bread and telling them it's a roast beef sandwich...

5

Was hoping to see something in tribute to the Seven Gables. The building burned this weekend for those that haven’t heard. I’m surprised it hadn’t been made into condos at this point it’s been empty for so long. I’ve been to art house rooms all over the planet and that was one of the best in terms of character and variety of obscure films.

@5: Seriously, I expected it to be the leading article. The city simply ignored repeated warnings about squatters (no surprise):

Trump never said specifically he wouldn’t sign the omnibus/covid bill. He said he didn’t like it. It was the media types that inferred he wouldn’t sign it. Sloppy “reporting”. Just like the outlets that said the pork and other measures were part of the relief. Technically the relief and other measures were part of the omnibus bill. Details matter. The defense bill he said he’d veto and did. That veto over ride will be voted on in the next day or so.

“The Nashville bombing is catnip for conspiracy weirdos.”
who doesn’t Love catnip?

another Timothy McVeigh Wannabee? what the Fuck we gonna DO with all these far ‘right’ Terrorists, their terror cells [UN-regulated ''militias''] and their far far FAR right corporate mass media cum Propagandists like FOX, the Koch Bros LLC, Addledsons etc?

they’ve come crawling outta trumpf’s shoddy woodworks like rats fleeing an aqueduct; this Infestation bodes Poorly for all the rest of US non-Fascists. January 20th cannot come a day too soon so Hang in there, Smokin’ Joe -- we NEED some Leadership ASAP – & Def not more Lederhosen.

“When a [Homeless] camp is cleared and the people living
there scattered [to the Winds], where are they supposed to go?”

who? oh, those people? why, what are you a KkKommie?
Capitalism NEEDS the Poor to keep the rest of US in line:
see what Happens when you Disobey? well Do ya? Now,
don’t go Broke when ya get the Covid and just Maybe
you’ll pull thru. but don’t Count on it. Freeloader.

(‘Squatters,’ rainy?
you never Fail to Disappoint.)

and yes, like Comte* says, Pitties -- when properly raised – are [not ALL, they’re wolves’ descendents too] Sweethearts. & def Not to be Messed with.

*Mmmm -- roast Beef!

For those who don't read referenced articles before snarking:

Neighbors said they’ve been contacting the city for months about squatters breaking in. Simone Barron shared emails that she sent to city council in November, saying a fire at the property was exactly her concern.

“I knew this was going to happen,” Barron said. “It just makes me so angry, I can’t even tell you how angry I am.”

Okay, a fond farewell to the Seven gables.
Many happy hours of my life were spent within its confines.
That strange painting on the back curtain is etched into my mind forever, some Wagnerian reverie, some Teutonic wet dream... would be very evocative if there was a picture preserved of that somewhere

13

@1 Pit Bulls score higher on the ATTS Temperament Tests than Golden Retrievers (Pit Bulls are in the top 10 out of all breeds if memory serves correctly). For this reason they make excellent service animals.

14

@7:

He has a well-documented propensity for saying one thing and then completely contradicting himself shortly thereafter, as well as towards equivocation, hinting he might do or not do something (such as refusing to sign this particular piece of legislation, which he suggested on several occasions) and then doing exactly the opposite. He thrives on ambiguity and obfuscation, because it allows him to never have to actually commit to a solid, consistent position on anything and always leaves him an out when he inevitably changes his mind; which he does more often than Edwin Jackson changed jerseys during his career.

15

...And also, because his base has the cognitive functionality of a baby ragworm, and can be trusted to have completely forgotten he said something by the time he gainsays himself...

16

@11: Yes, there are photos of it available.

17

@1 is correct. So is @3, but @1 is more correct.

@5 is also insightful. 2020 has been an annus horribilus

19

@1- well yes, of course that is what their primary function is, duh! Look at your average pit bull owner, they don't want nobody coming in and seizing their shit.

21

@5/6 Don't hold your breath waiting for the The Stranger to cover either the fire at the Seven Gables or the trashing of Neighbors. It doesn't fit the narrative they continually push of vagrants being good neighbors who were victims of the system.

22

"The Nashville guy is a patriot" --yepanDope

gawd, Another 'patriot'?
alt-White ALL White society
where just ONE Color Rules them ALL

have you any Rings?

23

@22: I suggest avoiding projecting narratives until more of the investigation into Anthony Warner's past and motivations is reported.

24

@20: The listener infers, the speaker implies.

25

@18: May Minnie Pearl slap you with her hat.

27

when 'patriots' stop Terrorizing US
perhaps your Equivocations may
Amount to something.

31

I'm reading the comment @7: "Trump never said specifically he wouldn’t sign the omnibus/covid bill. He said he didn’t like it. It was the media types that inferred he wouldn’t sign it. Sloppy 'reporting'."

This, folks, is what you call gaslighting.

I suppose we can also scoff at the media types for failing to predict and rationalize Trump's failure to sign the bill in time to beat Saturday's deadline to have the unemployment benefits continue uninterrupted.

32

@23:

I suggest you shut your oxygen-wasting pie-hole, because the odds are better than good you'll be wrong again, just like you always are...

33

@32: Oh, so you go by odds instead of facts. Not surprising.

But yet another of your contorted attack from an innocuous comment.

Only trolls act like you.

34

A Yarn Baller sounds like a fairly salacious accessory.

35

"But there’s one big question they don’t delve into: When a camp is cleared and the people living there scattered, where are they supposed to go?"

If only there were some sort of organization that had people on staff that are hired to look into questions. Perhaps they could ask our political leaders and community organizations those questions and report back what they found. Maybe we could call the people "reporters." Not sure what we would call such a mythical organization: Question-asker, Report-issuer, Newsgetter?

38

Prof. debating an incoherent rant isn’t productive. You would have more substantive engagement if your posts didn’t read like some guy on the Ave ranting like a mad man. We agree on many things in spite of your often unhinged posts.

If you didn’t know it by now it’s the reality show presidency. He’s a chaos agent. He was playing everyone to feed his ego by being the guy that got more dough for the little guy. He saw it wasn’t good for him and waited for a way he could spin it as a win and moved on.

I’m not carrying his water. I am savvy enough not to crap my pants everytime he does or says something stupid. He’s going to flail for the better part of the month before he’s relegated to cult status. We’ll be lucky if he doesn’t start a war in the next few weeks.

@1 Brent Gumbo: Agreed and seconded with @3 COMTE. My amazing naturopath has an adopted pit bull. She greets me and fellow patients at my ND's office, and is as gentle as a lamb. It is all about the environment in which an animal lives and how he / she is trained.

@2 kristofarian: I'm still eagerly waiting for the moment when Trumpty Dumpty, all set for a putt down at Mar-a-Lunatic bends down, and while the seam of his pants rip wide open........CHOMP! Wally Gator and crew suddenly rise up from the murky depths of the swampland made worthless by Trumpty Dumpty, and clamp down on Der Gropenfuhrer who lies face down in the his own self-created muck.
Either that, or by January 20,2021 international authorities along with the NY State AG and Washington State AG Bob Ferguson will be waiting, anticipating Trumpty Dumpty's Great Fall.

Regarding Nashville: "Nobody can figure out why except for countless weirdos on Twitter who are convinced it had something to do with... " Well, I'm not on TITTER and I'd like to think I'm not TOOOOO weird, but the 1st thing I noticed was that the blast took place outside a fondue joint called the "MELTING POT", a phrase guaranteed to make any self respecting white nationalist explode with rage...

@3 - So, I've been volunteering for CCI (Canine Companions for Independence) for years and years ago did for Leader Dogs for the Blind, and passing pets off as "service dogs" has become a huge problem. It's so much so that airlines are cracking down, but that also makes things more difficult for people with, you know, actual service dogs!

As with most things, people have become more and more spoiled, selfish assholes, and they feel entitled to take their pets on planes and into restaurants and food stores. The result is an explosion of bogus service dog claims and fake papers and attire.

I've never heard of a legitimate service dog that was a pit bull, ever. I would bet my month's paycheck this person "trained" their dogs themselves and got "Service Dog" vests and "certification" off the internet in about 3 minutes of online ordering. And while they say the dogs can detect seizures, I'd love to see them demonstrate that somehow. Guess what? I'm sure they can't.

I've been seeing this sort of thing for years, and I'll wager anything these two dogs are simply what we call "pets." It's terrible some asshole would take their pets, but that's almost certainly what they are. I hope they get the other pet back.

By the way, service dogs aren't chosen simply for intelligence but also reliable sociability, which is a big part of the reason almost all are golden retrievers, labs or mixes of the two breeds. They also receive between 1-2 years of specialized training, the most complex of which is by 3rd-party facilities specifically designed for the purpose. The one for CCI is in Santa Rosa, for example. These dogs are generally valued at roughly $50,000.

43

@33:

Why would facts be relevant now? You've never bothered to take them into account before, even when they've been handed to you on the same plate as your own ignorant ass...

44

Thanks for proving my point Prof.

45

@42:

To paraphrase @1:

You've volunteered for service dog orgs, but never knew Pitties make excellent service dogs, riiiiight:
