Democrats Declare Nation Has Given Them Clear Mandate To Squander

"Georgians had turned out in record numbers to express their will that the party 'piss this opportunity away' on petty infighting and inept maneuvering before ultimately ceding control of both chambers in the coming years. 'Americans asked for two years of inaction and gridlock, and that’s exactly what we intend to deliver. This isn’t just a blue wave, it’s a blue tsunami that’s going to circle the drain until it disappears forever.' At press time, Senate Majority Leader joined the Speaker to vow to usher the country into a level of prosperity and legislative achievement unseen since 2008."

5

Elizabeth Warren for Senate Majority Leader or GTFO.

6

@5: How about Diane Feinstein?

7

@ 6,

I hear Strom Thurmond's available, and he has about the same level of cognitive capacity these days.

8

@4 as sad as it is I'm pretty sure that Onion article will end up more premonition than satire. The good news for the Dems is they only have 14 seats to defend in 2022 in the Senate vs 20 for the Repubs. The bad news is the only states that would seemingly have a chance of flipping are PA and AZ.

9

5

dude.

10

@8,
I'm actually worried about newly elected senator Raphael Warnock in GA. He's got to run again in 2022 and the republicans are sure to put up someone who isn't as idiotic as his last opponent.

11

I find it absolutely ridiculous that we do not have congressional term limits. I was in 10th grade when we went to D.C. and I met my then House representative, Chuck Schumer. I will be 49 this year. No one should hold power for that long. Not Chuck Schumer, not Mitch McConnell, and none of the old white men who do nothing but bash the incoming class of non-white young women looking to bring about real policy change to this country. Time's up. We either get things done NOW or there will be no going forward. The very first thing that needs to be done after getting rid of Trump is removing all of the supporters of sedition and treason sitting in the current congress. Every single one of them must be unseated and tried for their crimes. No exceptions.

12

There are a number of Democrats I'd like to see primaried (including a few from right here in WA) but Schumer isn't on the short list.
I'm not too big on purity tests per se, believing as I do that we should be the 'big tent' party, but when elected officials in high profile positions demonstrate they lack the vitality to be effective, that pisses me off.
Schumer might (or might not) be captive to financial interests but I love his big mouth.

13

Ironically, this may be Trump’s final act of dumbness, acting like a shaved Orangutang, inciting insurrection, bloviating and scaring voters into the Democratic camp. Trump fell on his sword, in sort of an Anglicized equivalent of hara-kiri. Thank goodness Mr. Schumer is in charge now. The tough part from this point forward is arranging Trump’s burial at sea and listening to Pence ramble, which is about as interesting as watching a slug crawl along the sidewalk.

14

@10 I would agree and 22 will be an off year so turn out will naturally be lower which means it comes down to delivering the base. You would assume Repubs would naturally be more passionate since they are attempting to win back control. If Dems can deliver though they should be able to hold. Outside of GA and AZ I don't see any states they have to worry about and PA should be in play for them you would think.

@12 you have to admit an AOC vs Schumer showdown would be great theater. I personally don't think her brand would win a statewide election but that is exactly what was said when she ran for the House.

15

I'll gladly take Chuck Schumer, for U.S. Senate Majority Leader over Vladimir Putin's new pool boy, Moscow Mooch McDumbbell any day, and three times on Sunday.
Eat my shit and choke on it, Moscow Mooch, and feel the long overdue butt-hurt.

@5 Original Andrew: I actually like your idea better!! Original Andrew for the WIN!
Seconded on Elizabeth Warren for U.S. Senate Majority Leader. :)

@10 Urguthat Forka: Thank you for keeping us in the Georgia loop. I hope we can keep the newly elected Senator Rev. Raphael Warnock in legislative office beyond 2022 while we've got him, along with newly elected Senator Jon Ossoff.

@11 xina: I definitely agree about setting term limits. There are members of Congress who should have been ousted decades ago.

@13 pollysexual: Agreed and seconded. I really like your posts--they're so well said and summarized. :)

16

@8
AZalready has two Dem Senators. -
Sinema and Kelly. Kelly is up in 2 years, as he just won the remainder of late McCain's seat.
PA has a GOP senator in Toomey. Toomey had announced his retirement (in 2022) several months ago - interestingly he was considered as a moderate GOP senator.

17

Potential 2022 flips of Senate seats are evenly divided. R's defend more seats, but mostly safe seats in solid red states. Additional changes are possible by retirements, resignations, deaths in office, and intra-party conflict.

In the House, D's lose the gavel. The usual midterm losses and intra-party warfare would be enough, but we stand to lose a ton of seats via redistricting. The Supremes have declared gerrymandering constitutional - no matter how extreme.

Some states have their own less-partisan redistricting methods and/or state constitutions limiting gerrymanders - which the Supremes might or might not honor - but many many Democratic seats are at the mercy of Republican state legislators, recently relieved of all jeopardy of federal court intervention.

Going one step deeper into the weeds, reductions in winnable districts will put incumbent D's in head-to-head conflicts, and otherwise accentuate intra-party conflict.

18

Senator Lisa Murkowski (R, AK) is now insinuating she may leave the GOP and declare herself an Independent. I wonder how many other Rethugnicans are contemplating crawling down the rat tails?

19

AOC the Firebrand for House Majority Leader for 2022?
placing we the peeps over Corps? and for forty
years of undisputed Dem rule?
not to mention:
an Humane
America?

in.
all in.

@18 COMTE: May 2021 truly be the death of the GOP.. The General election was conducted fairly. The people, NOT KKKorporate billionaires, have spoken, this time. Willfully plotted tampering with the USPS over mail-in ballots, threats to state governors for not submitting to excessive recounts ("Find the votes!"), and retaliatory insurrections by illegal occupants of the White House in desperate need of a coup all have consequences. May the rats all crawl back into their sewers and rot there.
By the way, has anyone heard from Senate Minority Leader, Moscow Mooch McDumbbell, lately? Did he flee to the Kremlin to work as Vladimir Putin's new pool boy... nyet?

@19 kristofarian: Sign me up!!

@auntie Gee
already
