I feel like this is one of the rare cases when someone asks for $125M to respond by giving her $300M. The money she's asking for is to prepare for and react to forest fires. We need to give her the money to prevent some of them in the first place. Controlled burns, forest thinning, fire breaks take money and resources that will pay back tenfold.

And I want to go further. How do we pull trees out of our forests in a non-destructive ways and start a biomass industry to replace fossil fuels? If the problem is too much fuel in our forests leading to forest fires, I know we can come up with ways of using that fuel.

If we just expired all fossil fuel vehicle depreciation in the state tax code, we could afford that.

Tik tok.

With Washington State and the Biden-Harris Administration, we're in much better position to be funded sufficient funding to prevent forest fires and help end what shouldn't be the "new norm".
If State Land Commissioner Hillary Franz is still having problems with passing and relief bills after three tries, it's most likely because of fossil fuel industry coddling RepubliKKKan shitwipes like Doug the Thug Ericksen, R---Ferndale, 42nd District. We get rid of Ericksen and there's good chance our forests can be saved.
Joe Biden needs to quickly overturn Trump's latest move to remove protections for the spotted owl, threatening to wipe out 3.4 acres of old growth forests, Including the Snoqualmie-North Cascades National Forest, east of I-5 here in Washington State!

The state legislature must take heed of Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz and her budgetary requests. Let us not procrastinate until these monumental infernos reach urban areas, with horrific consequences. The air quality and respiratory issues alone are enough to spurn our representatives into action. We should leave the world a better place for our grandchildren, rather than riding it hard and putting it away wet like Donald “Drill Baby Drill” Trump and the intractable philistines of the Republicant Party who enabled his big pink keister-meister.

Give Franz whatever firefighting money she needs, but don’t let her bullshit you into logging timber under the false guise of “thinning.” Thinning is a giveaway to the logging companies, not an actual strategy for reducing forest fires.

Seriously, The Stranger, you need to interrogate the thinning claim. This isn’t the first time you’ve swallowed Franz’s pro-logging lies.

"The state is giving Franz crumbs" - I see what you did there!
