I saw this movie last year on TCM, which has been my constant companion since the lock down, and I REALLY enjoyed it too! I agree with both your comments about this film, and it was great seeing a black women as the intellectual. She reminded me of a female black professor friend who moved to NYC about the same time I did in1985 and shared an apartment for a short time in the Village. She was also a great actress, and had a heart attack on stage and died playing Hedda Gabler. So it was nice to see an intellectual like her portrayed on screen.
