Vaccinated Americans May Gather Indoors
But Must Mask In Public, C.D.C. Says

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Monday issued long-awaited guidance to Americans fully vaccinated against Covid-19, freeing them to take some liberties that the unvaccinated should not, including gathering indoors with others who are fully vaccinated without precautions while still adhering to masking and distancing in public spaces.

The agency offered good news to grandparents who have refrained from seeing children and grandchildren for the past year, saying that fully vaccinated people may visit indoors with unvaccinated people from a single household so long as no one among the unvaccinated is at risk for severe disease if infected with the coronavirus.

That means fully vaccinated grandparents may visit unvaccinated healthy adult children and healthy grandchildren without masks or physical distancing.

also from @1: The new advice is couched in caveats and leaves room for amendments as new data become available. The agency did not rule out the possibility that fully vaccinated individuals might develop asymptomatic infections and spread the virus inadvertently to others, and urged those who are vaccinated to continue practicing certain precautions.

On the subject of the American Rescue Plan, some fascinating stories about Joe Manchin I read over the weekend:
https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/03/what-drives-joe-manchin/618208/

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/07/us/politics/joe-manchin-filibuster-stimulus.html

https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2021/03/joe-manchin-reform-filibuster-senate-democracy-voting-rights.html

The "Meet the Press" interview referred to in the second and third stories:
https://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/video/manchin-i-m-not-going-to-change-my-mind-on-the-filibuster-102228549623

If Joe Biden is going to get the bulk of his agenda through Congress in these two years, Joe Manchin is going to be the critical player. And if Joe Biden doesn't get the bulk of his agenda through Congress in these two years--well, same thing.

One thing to keep in mind about the guy: he isn't representing the 7th District of WA, he's representing WV.

AR is where it's at. Or are we already living in an AR without realizing it?! 1!!1! Conspiraciez!

Racism lurks in the House of Windsor and offended parties rake in millions.

@ 5
R is VR.

Your subjective experience of the universe is VR.
Your crummy human sensors that only perceive a tiny fraction of what's happening allow your brain to imagine an "loosely-based-on-a-real-story" version of reality.

VR headsets ain't doing anything different to what your brain does without the helmet on.

9

Maybe I'm behind the times, but do VR headsets now project physical pain and pleasure?

10

I have the latest Windows Mixed Reality headset, the HP Reverb G2. The only game worth playing is Flight Simulator 2020, and even that game has problems going into and staying in VR without completely crashing.

The whole thing is not ready for prime time, if it ever will be.

Cars have many bad features. But rather than “cars are the worst,” the catalytic converter story shows that tweakers are the worst.

13

Thieves also stole converters from all the vans for a senior center. So Matt, in addition to the hit on the humane society, do you still find that a wonderful hassle for car and van owners?

Happy dreams Matt.

I think the slog comments are doing that thing where new ones don't display again.

18

Or maybe you have to post for them to display? The sticker patrol post was showing 4 comments, but only 1 displayed when I clicked thru. Then upon revisiting, it was showing 6, but then still only the 1 upon clicking.

19

I agree with raindrop, got to imagine having your car wrecked by thieves would be even worse if you were handicapped. Respect to the able bodied transexual zoophiles though, right Matty? Even though Baume tries to be the wokest, identiest(new word) stranger writer yet he is just as shitty as every other kid his age when it comes to thinking about anyone outside his own.

Why would Texas do anything about the astronomical bills? They have their grid for the sole reason to not have to answer to anyone in any way about any regulation. The people who live in Texas voted for and support the people who put this in place. It's absurd to believe a state that feels it doesn't have to follow any federal regulations (but demands a federal handout of course when there is any kind of disaster) would give a shit about price gouging.

And speaking of Texas, why are these racist motherfuckers always eating at Mexican restaurants? And always without irony.

Racist customers threatened to call ICE on Mexican restaurant's workers for requiring masks

You know, if you just did what everyone in Norway and BC does, and replace your car with a plug-in electric car or truck, nobody would care about catalytic converters, cause they don't have any.

22

@20:

My guess would be that a disturbingly large number of them think "Mexican food" was invented in Texas (hell, many of those probably don't know that Tejas was once part of Mexico)...

24

@13, 19,

Matt was pretty obviously being sarcastic in characterizing the increasing theft trend as "wonderful," idiots. He personally drives a car, FFS, or at least he did a couple years ago when he wrote something about using a scooter to repair one of the tires on his car.

26

@24: Of course, that's his off-ramp.

@20 xina and @22 COMTE: At this point I'm wondering if the only reason why 300% deregulated, blood red 'go it alone' Texas HASN'T followed through with its all fired up plan to secede from the Union (remember back when Barack Obama was twice legitimately elected President and Tea Party Texans threw a first class shit fit, yelling "Taxed Enough, Already--we're outta here!"?) is that in a crisis, Gee Willikers, who would bail all those oil-soaked Proud Boys out?
