On March 6th, the Northshore School district shut down for "up to two weeks" but of course they stayed closed. It wasn't until March 13th that the governor closed all public and private schools (again, "temporarily").

This was very smart, both politically and practically. A temporary shut down is easier to take. It doesn't upset people as much. But after a month, when things were getting as shitty as the experts expected, no one wanted to open the schools up again. Smart people knew there wasn't going to be school the rest of the year when they shut it down "for six weeks", but politics isn't about dealing with smart people. It is about doing the right thing while dealing with the idiots, and of course Inslee (and the various school boards) did just that.
