Rich, whatever the fuck "it does not appear to be terrorism related" means is that it does not appear to be an act of violence in furtherance of some political goal. That in turn means they think it was just a straight-up crime. Further investigation could change that initial take, but that's what they suspect so far.

It could be just some dude who hates cops, or maybe just Capitol Police cops. Maybe one of the cops owed him money or stole his girlfriend. Maybe one of the Congresspeople did, and the cops were just in his way. Maybe he was a whack-job who thought the cops were alien lizard-people in disguise.

Things that are American: Belief in Democracy, Baseball, Apple Pie and Chevrolet.

Things that are anti-American: Georgia Republican elected officials.

Baseball has been heard from. Still waiting on Apple Pie, and Chevrolet.

@5,
You forgot hot dogs...says one who is old enough to remember hearing that jingle many, many more times than he wanted to...

The Grant County property owner can probably flog that fuel tank to some Muskoid for upwards of half a million. Cash, not bitcoin.

I agree, you should support local journalism. This is why I subscribe to the Seattle Times, even though I don't agree with much of what they write. This is also why I donated again to this "newspaper". Am I not entertained? I am! Enjoy your pizza, Stranger. Get whatever flavor you like. Pineapple!

11

Sounds like someone in witness protection lives in Grant County.

13

@12 Yeah, it's a rag for sure, but it's better than no newspaper at all.

15

The Nation of Islam's belief structure isnt too different from the kkk: religious based, antisemitic as hell, paranoid, and, of course, racist as fuck. I could see the two joining forces at some point.

17

The Seattle Times received $10 million of our tax money in PPD and are lobbying the Feds for more:

https://www.seattletimes.com/business/local-business/seattle-times-co-gets-nearly-10-million-in-federal-coronavirus-aid-funds/

If they're not using it pay their employees a living wage, what are they using it for?

There was a time I subscribed to the Seattle Times. Then I realized I could just read the free PR press releases from the Police and Prosecutor's office and get the exact same stories.

22

@19: I'm always impressed how $10 million is either very little money (when it's given to a news org) or an enormous amount (when it is money defunded from the police) depending on how someone feels about where the money going/coming from.

As the article I linked admits, their financial problems predate and run far deeper than the pandemic. the PPE loan provided an excuse to get government funding for a failed business model that will either need to change, or go on the dole permanently, thus cementing their relationship with those in government.

The Seattle Times is an organization that supported FOSTA/SESTA and other federal laws designed to strip 1st amendment protections from online speech in order to re-establish their role as an information gate keeper. Do we really want to provide public support to a private organization that has declared war on the 1st amendment for their own ends?

23

@19: I'll also add that 10 million would have helped a lot of independent restaurants in Seattle that were doing fine before and lost revenue specifically due to the pandemic. To them, another 10 million could have made a real difference.

26

Regardless, $10 million would buy a lot of COCAINE and MALT LIQUOR for Matt Gaetz.

@25: Great, another QAnon "everything is actually child sex trafficking!" lunatic. That explains much about your incoherent posts. I assumed you were simply trying too hard to punch above your mental weight, but I now understand that is only part of your problem. Demented conspiracy theories will wreck your life. You should let them go.

The attack on the capital did not pan out and the sex trafficking Qanon grift is up. Time for your to move on with your life.

Those who oppose Sex Trafficking such as the Freedom Network (the largest anti-trafficking group in America) along with the ACLU, Amnesty International and pretty much all current sex workers opposed SESTA/FOSTA for placing all sex workers at greater risk while doing nothing to stop or prevent sex trafficking. By the way, how many sex traffickers have been arrested under SESTA/FOSTA anyway. I know according your your sex trafficking is an epidemic! numbers there are like 50 million sex traffickers kidnapping 100's of millions vulnerable children every day. A law like SESTA/FOSTA must have lead to millions of traffickers arrests given that you can't through a rock in Seattle without hitting one. Arrested thousands maybe? OK, hundreds perhaps? It's been 2 years since it passed, can you name 5?

Not only has SESTA/FOSTA done nothing to stop sex trafficking, but it has pushed sex trafficking deeper underground and placed all sex workers at far greater danger as they were forced onto the street here in Seattle and in other cities as they lost the online platforms they depended on as a harm reduction tactic:

https://www.sfchronicle.com/crime/article/The-Scanner-Sex-workers-returned-to-SF-streets-13304257.php

SESTA/FOSTA has created a spike in the murder and rape of sex workers overall however. Is that what you mean by stopping trafficking? If you kill of all the sex workers there will be no one left to traffic?

https://www.engadget.com/2018-04-27-suicide-violence-and-going-underground-fosta-sesta.html

https://www.thedailybeast.com/sex-workers-fear-for-their-future-how-sesta-is-putting-many-prostitutes-in-peril

Your Qanon "there's a trafficker pedophile in every white van in Walmart!" moral panic stupidity aside, the issue I raised here is not even about the well documented harm it has done to sex workers, but the chilling affect it had on things like the craigslist dating section (to include the strictly platonic section) and sex therapy websites that were forced to shut down after SESTA/FOSTA due to the potential liability under the overly broad SESTA/FOSTA framework making them legally liable for any act of prostitution that may occur on their site.

https://www.esquire.com/lifestyle/sex/a19573460/craigslist-shuts-down-personals-fosta/

The Media, big movie studios and big tech all pushed SESTA/FOSTA as a way to regain content control with Qanon sex trafficking panic designed of influence pearl clutching morons like yourself even if give up your first amendment rights.

https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2018/03/how-fosta-will-get-hollywood-filters-theyve-long-wanted

These large powerful companies knew that morons like yourself would not only eviscerate the 1st amendment, but do their bidding if they just whispered "SEX TRAFFICKING" into your Qanon addled brain.

It worked as it always does because morons like yourself willing to do the corrupt bidding of the rich and powerful will always outnumber informed voters 10 to 1.

As for the restaurants, there were major problems with them actually getting access to the PPP in a way that prevented them from going out of business, unless you consider all the empty restaurants in Seattle a "win." That $10 million along with making the system more accessible to those who were not millionaire media owners would have done far more to help struggling restaurants than a temporary windfall for a failed media group that is simply prolonging their inevitable need to restructure or failure.

Easter is the annual deathgasm of the governing cult of the United States. It seems fitting therefore that this weekend corresponds with a massive uptick in hospitalizations and deaths associated with a disease spread entirely through behavior. While on the one hand, I am apply to see we have a vaccine, on the other, I am saddened if not surprised to see the gerontocracy hoard the vaccine entirely for the Boomers-the most self obsessed and full of shit generation in the history of humanity.

Yet, the most obnoxious of that foul generation has refused to take the vaccine, despite desperate attempts by the gerontocracy to persuade them. The gerontocracy has even refused to make it legally possible for anyone younger than a Boomer to access the shot, while all the while promoting it, in the best Marie Antionette imitation they can muster. The gerontocracy has told every non-Boomer to choke on the vent until we can coddle the remaining Boomer skeptics and cajole these dear, precious aging infants into taking their medicine.

Awww, poor widdle Boomer. It’s always been about you, and you make sure it always will be by never releasing your death-grip on power, even if you are senile and shitting your Depends. We wouldn’t let you drive a car, but you’re driving the ship of state-right off the edge.

How fitting these ultra-conservative whiners who voted for Trump begin with are packing the pews without masks to spread the viral joy in this, their annual deathgasm. The rest of us have to deal with the boredom and fear while we wait for the Boomers to thin their own herd down to a point where the rest of us can move into the leadership and redesign the state into something that won’t let everyone else die just so the Boomers can throw an epic tantrum.

@34 A quote from Heather Heyer’s mother when asked about the right of White Nationalists (at least as bad as your imaginary sex traffickers) to march in Skokie. IL in 1978 defended by the ACLU:

“I do, and that’s not a popular opinion.” She adds, “I think once we take away the right to free speech, we may never get it back. My big concern is… who makes the decision, what speech is allowable and what is not?”

Man Living In Most Affluent Country In World History
Has Nerve To Complain About Being Homeless

SAN FRANCISCO—Scoffing at his ignorance and petulance, sources confirmed Thursday that local man Clint Williams, despite being a resident of the most affluent country in the history of the world, had the nerve to complain about being homeless.

“I mean, this is the wealthiest, most powerful nation in the history of all of human civilization, and he’s out here grumbling that he doesn’t have a place to sleep?” said onlooker Vincent Bristow, who shook his head while watching the ingrate count out the change in his pocket to see if he had enough money to buy a cup of hot coffee.

“Just look around you at these towering skyscrapers and dazzling buildings that he gets to sit outside of every day. Nobody’s life is perfect, but you have to put things in perspective: This is the United States of America we’re talking about!

This guy’s basically won the lotto, and here he is griping that he’s hungry.”

At press time, Williams was whining that there weren’t any public restrooms nearby where he could wash up before work.

@33 WAAAH! Somebody Needs a Diaper Change: Whatever, widdle entitled Gen-Z. I go to VA CBOC Mount Vernon on Saturday, April 10th for my second COVID jab. I'm just grateful to be vaccinated.
Governor Jay Inslee is expanding COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to age 16 and up as of April 15th. And you're still bitching that it'll be at least another year before your mom will let you use the car. Get over it. Your turn for a jab or two will come. Maybe if you ask the healthcare professionals nicely they'll provide you with a free package of Huggies to take home

33 - I recommend a better attitude.

@20:

One could make the same statement with regard to any human activity. After all, we're just insignificant masses of atoms that exist in our current state of conglomeration for such a brief length of time we have virtually no impact on the greater universe. We're nothing, we mean nothing, and when the entire human race has gone extinct the universe will not only not mourn our passing, it won't even notice.

That said, AS a collective of these atomic assemblages, whatever we do only has meaning TO us. One of the things that distinguishes us from lower life forms is our innate curiosity: what is beyond that bend in the river or on the other side of that mountain? Not only does this inquisitiveness compel us to wonder about the things we can't see, it instills in us a drive to find out - to know the answer to those questions. It's partly what got us out of East Central Africa several millions of years ago and facilitated our spread across the globe. That same drive compels us even today to go to places we've never been. When we lose that we can really just pack it all in, cuz we'll be done - and the universe won't even notice enough to not give a fuck.

45

Remember the generation that said never trust anyone over the age of the 30? Yeah, guess their collective age now. So whenever I hear some dumb ass go on about Boomers like they are somehow never going to get old and be reviled by the young and dumb I just roll my eyes.

Millennials are in their 40s now. They also make up the largest contingent of anti-vaxxers. They are responsible for bringing back measles, a disease that had been totally eradicated in the United States.

The babies (whatever generation they've been named) love to live off of their parents while pretending old people are the sole cause of all of the world's problems.

The dinosaurs will never die off because there is always a contingent of the young generation that are just as conservative, just as racist (or more racist), just as stupid, just as sexist, and just as destructive as the oldsters they rail against. You think the Proud Boys are Boomers? You think the white supremacist mass shooters are Boomers? Think again. The young and dumb are the most violent. The young and dumb led the violent attack at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th. Trump may be old as fuck and instigated actions with his rhetoric, but his old fat ass (nor the old fat asses of his generational cohort) are not the ones going around this country committing acts of domestic terrorism.

Human history repeats itself endlessly.

@44:

One point I'm very fond of making when the question of "why are we wasting all this money to go into outer space when we have real problems here on earth?" invariably comes up in these kinds of discussion is: there aren't any McDonald's or AM-PM's or Pottery Barns in space - every penny, LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE PENNY spent on space exploration is spent right here on earth. It helps pay the salaries of tens of thousands, nay, even hundreds of thousands of scientists, engineers, technicians, fabricators, construction contractors, doctors, and other skilled workers, so they can own homes and cars, buy food and clothing for their families, pay for medical insurance and expenses. And all that doesn't even take into account the technological innovations to which you allude, that have made life easier, safer, and more productive for billions of people around the globe, even if they don't otherwise benefit from our investment in space exploration. So in a very real sense we're not "wasting" anything.
