I bet the baseball to the face hurt less than being named Jairus.

Does Mark Mullet belong to his own party since Rich sees fit to name him separately from the other groups upset over Inslee's vetos? It bring me joy that six months later Rich is still salty over the SEIU failing in their bid to buy that seat.

MALT LIQUOR 4 KIDZ was also on the short-list, but didn't make the cut..

Aren't Pixie Sticks, Pop Rocks and Dips an under cover of version of Cocaine for Kids?

RE: The Bidens' tax returns

$600k in income last year actually seems impressively low for a double income family on the East Coast, one a professor and the other a politician and former VP.

I mean, don't get me wrong, $600k is a hell of a lot of money. They ain't poor. But I would have figured they'd be making at least in the low millions just from speaking fees and book deals.

11

@10 It was interesting to read that his family's income is less than half that of his VP's. I didn't read into the details at all frankly, I'm just glad we don't have to deal with the drama again like we did with the previous idiot.

13

@10

Professors are not Div. 1 football coaches, so they make a decent salary, but it's not really that much, I guess. As for Joe. He wasn't really "working," was he? I don't think they released their W2s, but they earned $212K in wages, $260K in pensions and annuities, and $53K in Social Security, plus a few other things.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/2021.05.17-POTUS-Redacted-2020-Federal-and-State-Returns.pdf

I guess Joe wasn't earning that much, if anything, on royalties, and since he was campaigning he probably wasn't getting much in fees on the speaking circuit.

14

@10 Good grief get a grip already, the median income in Washington DC is like $50k. In no universe is $600k below expectations for a dual-income household on the East Coast.

If you want to argue that the Bidens aren't raking in as much dough as other political elites, then go ahead and shoot your shot but fuck's sake man that's not what "East Coast" means.

16

@5 has an interesting take. We need to understand that it is highly likely that Ford GM Rivian Audi and Saab will pivot better into EV than Tesla, but that we as a society need to replace personal cars with EV transit and high speed rail nationwide.

Now, for people like me, popping down $85k for an all-electric sports truck might make sense, but most of you should get real and buy e-bikes e-scooters and e-skateboards and just rent EVs when you go on vacation via the new Mexico-Canada high speed train

17

@16: All elective aviation is better than scaring the planet's surface with more train tracks.

18

*all electric aviation...

19

Closer than we think ...
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/electric-aviation-could-be-closer-than-you-think/

20

@17 Oh dear Lord, no. Airplanes now get 43-54 passenger miles per gallon. Trains get 72-190 PMPG. While those aren't electric, they are repsentative of how much energy you need for each mode. Another line of electrified high speed rail tracks next to existing freight rail lines is way less impact than the number of solar panels/wind turbines/dams you'd need to run electrified planes.

21

People are quibbling about how much $600 K in annual earnings represents while completely overlooking the larger issue: once again we have a President who willingly, and without being compelled by a court, makes public their income tax return, just like every previous president - with one notable exception.

bullet trains'll hafta slow down a bit
for the curve here and have you ever seen 'em RUN?

25

@14,

I should have emphasized that I meant $600k income is low for a top level politician like Joe Biden. $600k is wealthy for anyone else.

@15,

The rightwing internet is questioning whether Biden's hiding some of his income?? JFC. Their boy Donnie's hidden his entire income his whole life. I guess it's ok if you're a fascist.

26

@20 And batteries are a heck of a lot heavier per joule than jet fuel, whereas you can just string wires above the tracks instead of weighing a train down with batteries.

Fortunately, there is a form of aviation whose energy efficiency is high enough to be met with an all-electric power system even at commercial/shipping scale.

Unfortunately, it's blimps. Perhaps raindrop just doesn't mind moving slower and hauling a whole lot less than a train, while keeping a close eye on the weather?

27

@25 I think what you meant to say there there is "I apologize, it was lazy of me to use the right-wing dog-whistle 'East Coast' to refer to the sociopolitical elite, I understand the vast majority of people living in that part of the country are neither wealthy nor influential, and I promise I won't do it again."

The U.S. government is trying to give many more millions to Israel. Which we need to have a serious quarrel with due to the slaughter and destruction that nation has continued against Gaza and Palestine for many decades.

The training of our local police forces by Israel is something that must be addressed now while the iron is hot and to stop the renewed attacks enabled by the U.S.government. Millions world wide are protesting now.
