A "federal bill to legalize marijuana;" LMAO. Biden fired all of his staffers simply for admitting they even tried the pot(after he promised them he would not). He is a drug fucking warrior who has a Duterte level resentment towards drugs, especially drug dealers. I honestly think he would veto anything congress brings him in regards to drug decriminalization. President Pudding Cup really believes in the false narrative of the "drug pusher," probably from listening to Hunter'S lies. "But dad, they made me do it, I didn't have a choice!"

Keeping the acrylic walls of that swimming pool in London clean is going to be a nightmare. Can we assume the people in charge of that won't be paid very well? Anyway, sounds gimmicky. I predict it'll be a turned into a sky bridge or, more likely, removed in less than five years for what would two apartment buildings need a skybridge?

About Trump's blog - well, he couldn't have run out of things to say. The jerk does nothing but talk. And to say his followers can't read is too simplistic. Hopefully, this is the start of the acknowledgement of his irrelevancy. I'm really beginning to get a little pissed though that the media is still covering his every fart. I mean, he's in the news at least every other day...still.

I don't believe in saints, but Dr. Fauci is certainly a hero of mine. Man, to have tap-danced through the Trump administration mine field, to have stood up to death threats aimed at him and his family, his later work during the AIDS crisis - all for the public well-being? H-E-R-O.

Are we sure the asparagus recipe was "accidentally" copy/pasted? I used to work with someone who was lazy AF and wouldn't read documents. So I told him I hid Elvis lyrics in there, and he had to find them and take them out before the document went to our client. He said, "I read it three times ... I couldn't find the Elvis thing :-( " He was big mad when I told him it was a trick to make him read the doc properly. Thieving Belgians stole my mind trick.

@10 Tell us what you mean by that. Which virus was enhanced by "virologist wizards?"

@14 A former co-worker would stick broccoli references into their homeowner's association meeting minutes to see if anyone actually read the minutes. Spoiler alert: nobody did.

so Jan 6th was only a test-run
they're bound to get better at it
with enough Practice who wouldn't?
will they Shut Down the Innernet to do so?

17

@14/15:

Well, I really can't blame them all that much. IME higher level executives almost NEVER read beyond the summary section, if one is provided; if not, it's a good bet they haven't read ANY of whatever document you put in front of them, except the line at the end of the income/profit & loss sheet that says how much $$$ the company is expected to make. So, it's no surprise mid-level folks don't bother to read it either.

Same goes for clients: it's amazing how many times I've answered a query from a client by telling them, "if you would refer to Section X on page Y of the document we sent you'll find the answer to your question." Of course they usually get all huffy about being made to do the actual work of looking up the information that's already been provided to them, but hey, that's why we provided it in the first place.

18

If you write a blog for people who don’t like to read, you can’t be surprised when they, you know, don’t.

There will be no bill to legalize marijuana at the federal level.

Part of the reason is that Biden's not friendly towards it, but really, it's so far down the list of democratic party priorities I just can't imagine it'll even come up.

I mean, Jesus, they can't even agree to raise minimum wages from the current level of "destitute" up to the level of "abject poverty." Passing a bill legalizing pot seems like a fantasy.

21

Nat, you put the cart before the horse. What the reddit folks did was cause a short-squeeze. The hedge funds were shorting GameStop, and the reddit folks caused a short-squeeze by forcing the price up.

22

@20 Urg, it has nothing to do with priorities. It would take, like, one day. This isn't complicated. Biden doesn't want it, and too many dems are chickenshit.

Min wage has pushback from business, not just repubs. That's what makes it hard. There's little pushback on weed (maybe a little from big pharm) - over 60% of Americans want it legalized according to polls. In most places, it would be a popular move for dems. There are even some prominent repubs backing it because they see money. But dems never miss an opportunity to fuck themselves over.

I'm sick to death of the priorities bs. It's a convenient excuse politicians use when they're full of crap. It's why almost nothing ever gets done.

Weed is a civil rights issue. The burden of proof is on the government to show that it presents such a danger to society that it should be a scheduled drug. The government has never been able to show that's the case. It's unconstitutional.

24

@22 - Hell, the absolute least they could do is bump down its schedule level from 1 to 4 or 5. I believe that can be done without Congressional involvement. Just give the order. I mean, if he's determined to keep full legalization off the table.

26

@22,

There's more than just a little pushback from Pharma. They are full force against legalizing or even decriminalizing weed, and they've got shitloads of cash to use for lobbying (i.e., bribes).

Also, popular support, whether from in-party or even general, doesn't matter. Politicians don't answer to the public, they answer to the ultra wealthy and to monied corporate interests.

Minimum wage has bipartisan popular support. So do gun regulations. So does single payer health insurance. Doesn't matter.

But to get to your main issue with my comment, that of priorities, I'm not talking about priorities as in, "they only have time for this and no time for that." I'm talking about burning political capital. They can only get so much passed before they hit a wall where they can't go any further, no matter how much time they have (or at least, that's the common belief. I'm not sure I buy it, but that's a whole other discussion)

Getting legislation passed isn't a matter of time, it's more like a token economy where they've got 6 chits (political capital) and each prize they want costs them X chits. Once they're out of chits, it's over. EVERYTHING could be passed in a day, IF they had enough chits. There's legislation for every democratic dream already written and ready to go. That's not the issue. There's a list of priorities, and pot legalization is just too far down the list... it would cost them too many chits and they want to spend those chits on other stuff. Yeah it can be done fast, but it's not a matter of time, it's a matter of burning bridges. In order to get anything they might want, the dems have to burn some political capital. There's only so much they can burn.

27

@26 Urgutha Forka: I think #1 priority on the burn list should be killing the GOP filibuster.

28

@27: There is nothing 'GOP' about the filibuster. It's loved and hated by both parties.

29
