As #7 said, we are all descendants from African ancestors. Biology took over from there. "Race" as a political construct or social concept is pretty tricky though. Irish (my clan) and Italian people were only recently admitted to the club of "white people". Greeks are still provisional. Why do we capitalize "Black" and not "white"?
