I'm opposed to the liberal use of police violence, myself - and I was initially taken back by this story too. But then I actually studied some of the videos of that incident and the events leading up to it. It makes sense if you have a full perspective/context of everything going on outside and around and inside the building -- including the fact that this crowd of rioters was trying to bludgeon a police officer to death, had strung up a gallows while calling for the public executions of Pence and Pelosi, amongst a whole lot of other behavior they were engaged in, including in the building - and with respect to other representatives. Many of them were armed with multiple types of weapons and the vandalism alone was pretty shocking if you look at some of the pictures that were taken in the aftermath.

Anyway, the police officer who shot her made a fast and tactically correct decision, IMV, and one that put a stop to the crowd. As soon as she entered, she was going to let all of them through and they could well have taken hostages and subverted the election, even, according to one analysis I read. I think they definitely had a plan of this sort, she was former military and "in on it" - and I think certain members of Congress were too - including one of them (whose name momentarily escapes) who's even on video briefly conferring with her before she breached the window they broke).

Hopefully all of this will come out in a fuller investigation. But this is the reality, people. Other people could have been killed. Ashley Babbitt knew exactly what she was doing - and knew exactly the risks. And Trump, as usual, is FOS.
