Will Seattle citizens be able to escape the gaslighting of the homeless industrial complex and approve the Compassion Seattle initiative?

2

YES to drones replacing fireworks. Could be even cooler than fireworks and a number of "BOOMS" could be added for the people that gotta have that noise.

The Oprah persona.

@6 vaccines are working. people being hospitalized and dying of covid right now are not vaccinated. people who are vaccinated are for the most part not getting sick. those getting sick are not requiring hospitalization and are not dying (yes there are exceptions). these vaccines are working exceptionally well. it is the unvaccinated, especially those who refuse to get vaccinated, that are causing the wildfire spread and mutation of the virus. if people don't get vaccinated we're going to reach a point where the virus will be able to outmaneuver any vaccine. scientists and doctors are already sounding the alarm about this. if that happens then covid could literally decimate the world's population by billions. good for the earth, bad for people. and we'll never be rid of it. all because americans are so fucking stupid they won't get vaccinated while the rest of the world is dying to get vacccinated, literally.

11

Get vaccinated now.

No vaccine, no fun.

@4,

Yeah, I thought the same thing. I thought maybe Charles was just being snarky or something? Or trying to make some very obscure point?

My image of LeVar Burton is actually that he's sort of nerdy. Geeky. Bookish... I mean, Reading Fucking Rainbow! Fits perfectly as a Jeopardy host.

Are fleets of drones really more carbon-neutral than TNT? Or do people just assume that less smoke is more green? If I saw a blanket of drones hovering above a city for an hour-long display, I'd think: Where is all that electricity sourced?

Not to mention the batteries, the electronic, plastic and metal components, their shipping to the US, and the labor and industrial infrastructure involved in their manufacture. All for what, a thousand drones that will be discarded after a single use?

People overwhelmingly believe that if it's electric, it must be green, and sometimes it is. But I wonder whether a pile of gunpowder wrapped in a bunch of paper, assembled using low-tech equipment, might out-green these bright, shiny objects.

14

@10, you are correct but one has to wonder why there is no concern by this administration in allowing 100 of thousands 'undocumented 'monthly into our country, many with COVID, untested and then flying or bussing them in various cities. If we are so concerned about it's spread what gives...they certainly are not Trump voters who refuse the vacine.

15

@14

Go shovel your bullshit somewhere else asshole.

Not even Fox News is crazy enough to claim that hundreds of thousands of 'undocumented' anyone is entering the country. That's just blatantly false.

It's also quite clear that the areas that voted for Trump are the areas with the lowest vaccination rates.

You've been spoon-fed propaganda by right-wing, media and you lap it up like a pig and slop.

16

Real Americans get vaccinated.

Unfortunately, we are also in a pandemic of mental illness where one of the symptoms is not getting vaccinated. I have many inlaws who won't get vaccinated, and they're all trash. Most of them never graduated from high school.

Oh, and by the way - My stupid brother-in-law, who thought it was all the flu and the vaccine was a hoax?

He's dead. Good fucking riddance.

17

Vaccine hesitancy isn't exclusively American. Not by a long shot.

@16: Condolences to your sister. What a tragedy. Your nieces must be devastated.

"Wally Gudgell, the Orcas Island Windermere agent who represented Winfrey and Bob Greene in the sale, said, “They were in the process of remodeling and they just realized in that process they were never going to be able to use it properly and it doesn’t make any sense.”

@21: Nurses, respiratory therapists, orderlies, and doctors who have to do the dirty work aren't rejoicing. Please make a note of that.

24

@2:

For (insert your chosen deity here) sake - NO FUCKING BOOMS! Every Fourth of July - and for days before and after - my stressed-out dog spends long periods of time shuddering in our bathroom because of all the fucking idiots who think generating loud concussive blasts at 10:30 at night is just so much goddamn fun. If you HAVE to have some sort of aural accompaniment to a synchronized drone display, can we at least make it something that DOESN'T send most of the City's pets into fits of terror?

25

And Charles, I would posit that there's no "confusion" about mask wearing at all: just keep wearing them, whether you're vaccinated or not. You'll be reducing the risk of contracting AND spreading COVID, and down the road you'll also be greatly reducing your risk of contracting other viral infections, such as influenza and spreading that to others.

Seriously, after 18 months of this mask wearing this should be second nature to most of us. I for one plan on continuing the practice for quite some time into the foreseeable future - hell, I may never give it up, because who know when the NEXT global novel coronavirus pandemic will occur? The only thing I know with any reasonable amount of certainty is that there WILL be another one - or several - between now and the time my corporeal remains are recycled.

26

COMTE illustrates how the pious and sanctimonious will forever mask themselves in their cluttered little dens and pout about the gall of the rest of us for getting on with our lives and wearing masks only when advised by the CDC.

Orcas is a lovely place to visit but there's not a lot to do there anyway in my opinion, so I don't blame Oprah. I've been there twice, once in my highschool days for a kayaking trip based out of Camp Orkila, and once in 2016 for a camping trip. I camped in Moran State Park, checked out the town (Eastsound), hiked Turtleback Mountain, kayaked East Sound, and there's nothing else I really want to go back for...
