I know this didn't make the cut of Slog PM (or AM) today, but I just have to express my joy and admiration at Sunisa Lee from Minnesota winning the gold in the women's gymnastics all-around, one of the showcase events in the Summer Olympics. I don't follow women's gymnastics, and when Simone Biles bowed out, it didn't occur to me that another American could step up and win the gold in her place.

Sunisa girl, you're a superstar. (American flag emoji!)

As long as I'm expressing some Olympics happiness, so thrilled to see former UW Husky Kelsey Plum leading the USA to the gold in the first-ever women's 3x3 basketball. Then again, just to show the random cruelty of these Olympics, the Storm's Katie Lou Samuelson would have joined Plum on the gold medal stand if not for a positive COVID test, despite being fully vaccinated. Olympics are cruel enough in normal years without COVID wreaking havoc.

"... [trumpf disciple goobernor Asa] Hutchinson said in a televised announcement shared online by The Recount. 'There will be no statewide mask mandate imposed by me. There’s no discussion about restrictions on business mandates on businesses. We are wide open in Arkansas. We’re going to be doing business in Arkansas… '"

That Disney statement about the ScarJo suit (“sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic”) is beyond galling. This is the company that kept their giant theme park open in FLORIDA (2.5M cases and counting) throughout the pandemic, and they suddenly care about Covid?

Just…wow.

So in some states you can be arrested for wearing a mask and others you can be arrested for not wearing one, fun times...
Also, I'm no huge fan of disney but that lawsuit sounds like a bad idea to me. As someone who doesn't patronize theaters, a lawsuit against a streaming release is concerning. Also, I would think disney will be less interested in working with Scarlet in the future since she's suing them; that just seems like a bad idea because how big disney is.

@4 grab yer pitchforks and torches! They're desperately poor and in need of mental health treatment and they must. be. punished! Not housed and helped though, that would be ridiculous, and humane.

@10 I read that piracy was blamed for the flop, but I think that claim may be overexaggerated. The reviews are pretty mixed and it seemed like people stopped talking about it right after it released. Personally, I didn't watch the movie because I don't like the character, she doesn't have any unique powers and she's written to be melodramatic. Also, this was the first movie disney's had a tandem release of theaters and streaming so it was experimental. I just don't think disney intentionally deprived her of potential earnings, what would disney have to gain from that?

Guesty is right about this one.

If you're ignoring the story about the attempted rape in the courthouse, you're not really pretending to be a journalist any more.

Ignoring stories that don't fit your ideological preference doesn't make them go away.

I have chronic Hepatitis B which lead to Liver cirrhosis I was told there was no cure and was recommended to use lamivudine (Epivir) medication which was not a complete cure for the virus and leads to Hair loss and kidney problem. I came across Doctor Nelson Ads on this blog site with series of testimonies from his previous patients who have been cured from Hepatitis B, Erectile Dysfunction, Kidney diseases etc .. I placed an order for his product which I received at my address via dhl service within 4 days, and with his instructions I used the product for 21 days. The first week I discovered huge difference on my health, and when I went for another tests my result was negative with no trace of the virus on my blood. I recommend Dr. Nelson to anyone with Kidney Stone, Breast Cancer, Heart Disease, fibrosis, herpes virus, erectile dysfunction, prostate cancer, low sperm, lung cancer. The professor_mcGrumpyPants is having another bad day. Belching that anyone who doesn't agree with his privileged point of view is a troll, while trolling himself. He wants to defend the homeless from his computer chair, when he should put on his big boy pants and invite all the homeless to crash on the couch he shares in his mom's basement.

@19: Sorry, but the Prof has a point. I don’t remember you ever expressed this level of outrage regarding any other rape? Pretending anyone is defending this person because it has been rightly pointed out that you seem to find homelessness an aggravating factor to any crime is absurd. It is of course a heinous crime, and the perpetrator is of course a horrible person, but where he lays his head at night has nothing whatsoever ever to do with it.

Public health and public safety shouldn't be politicized. Obviously, we will not hear about every case of Covid, and every assault.
But contracting serious illness is bad, and being assaulted is terrifying.
Since I don't drive, I walk, bus and bike around a considerable amount of Seattle. The residential parts are ok, but a lot of the city has deteriorated in the last few years. Oh - and the deterioration includes greenbelt fires just a couple blocks from where I live.
