@1- Did you miss the "One man dead..." part?

3

Huh, no mention at all that Trump negotiated the Afghanistan withdrawal, and also authorized the release of 5,000 Taliban prisoners from jail. Weird, but anyway....

I've been getting those scare-mail letters from Social Security for a while now, I think the first one I got years ago said they'd be broke by now. It's always a decade or two in the future, and it changes every year. Maybe just raise the SS tax on income for higher earners so we don't have to go through this BS every year?

The numb-nuts in Texas should have just seceded from the U.S. when they idly threatened to during the Obama-Biden Administration. Then we would have gotten the opportunity to see just how well they'd do without our federal money while suddenly having to make nice with Mexico. So much for their own state power grid that doesn't work during cold snaps. And hurricane season is just getting longer and more severe, thanks to over-dependency on fossil fuels and their subsidiaries. And now, with Greg Abbott criminalizing anyone who gets vaccinated let lone wears a mask, Texas hospitals are full to capacity with COVID cases. D'OH!
I wonder how many Texas voters will just say, "fuck it" and a mass exodus ensues?

So Social Security will be dead by 2034. I guess it's a good thing I never counted on ever seeing it.

@6 "I wonder how many Texas voters will just say, "fuck it" and a mass exodus ensues?"

I guess you've never been to Texas. That's not going to happen.

9

@6: I guess you never check to make sure there's actually water in the pool first without leaping off the high diving board, Swift-boots. I have friends in Texas who are ready to call it quits on living in the Lone Star State for the very reasons I just stated in @6. Not everyone in blood red Texas is hopelessly MAGA-stupified.
Now run along. It's way past your bedtime.

10

@9 I lived in Texas for 3 years during my military service. Once again, I urge you to seek psychological help.

11

Texas also passed a no abortion after 6 weeks bill. So much for the 'no undue burden' portion of Roe v Wade.

12

and so much for being

'Secure in One's Person'

13

@3 - we don't even have to raise the tax on high earners. Just lift the cap so that more of your income is subject to the Social Security tax (I believe now it's only the first $110,000 or so).

14

@10: Actually, Swifty, I believe it is you and especially Greg Abbott who need all the psychotherapy you can get. Texas is now officially the American Taliban State of Confusion.

@11 pat L: All the more reason to exit Texas en masse.

15

And who the fuck---besides the profit-lusting GOP---put Texas solely in charge of printing all public school textbooks nationwide?
{"Texas, Textbooks, and the Politics of History Standards", November 26, 2014, Dr. Margaret Crocco, professor and chair of the Department of Teacher Education at Michigan State University].
Texas, the misinformation superspreader of enough bullshit to fertilize the entire continent of Africa.

How unsettling to think that not only has nothing in Texas changed in thirty years, but actually gotten exponentially worse since:
"You shoot off a guy's head with his pants down, believe me, Texas is not the place you want to get caught!"
----Susan Sarandon (as Louise Sawyer), in Thelma & Louise, 1991.

16

@10: And by the way, if you think Texas is so wonderful, Swifty, what brought you all the way out here to the safety and security of your Blahview tree fort? Did you actually get tired after all that military training of fahtin' fer yer Free Dumbs?

17

" I lived in Texas for 3 years during my military service."

And as anyone who's ever been in the military or been a dependent of someone in the military will tell you, the culture on a military base is simply a microcosm of the culture of the larger civilian population surrounding it - there's literally no difference whatsoever...

19

Dr. Ojamo is here trying to rob us right now. Perhaps Molewacka will, um, "whack" him?

20

@17 COMTE: "And as anyone who's ever been in the military or been a dependent of someone in the military will tell you, the culture on a military base is simply a microcosm of the culture of the larger civilian population surrounding it---there's literally no difference whatsoever..."
Yes, that is true, except for one big difference in authority and discipline. Unlike civilians, military personnel are property of the U.S. government, and often deemed expendable--particularly by GOP legislators. In the civilian world, wrongdoers get busted only once. When military service members get busted when out in town, the local police book them, and then their asses are grass once they get back to the main gates and deal with base security, MPs, and / or shore patrol.
I wonder how many times ol' Swifty's been sent to the brig for shooting his mouth off?
and, by the way:
Way to GO on your very aptly stated and cleverly designed avatar, COMTE! Bravo and kudos! :)
