Happy birthday to the Stranger! I've been a reader since the very beginning. :)
I remember Inga Musico's frog porn, the greatest line in film criticism (Waxy waxy Anglo Saxy) & the I Saw You and Stranger Valentines gave me great joy over the years. The Stranger has seen many amazing writers cut their teeth before going on to greater things. I've had the pleasure of meeting many of them in the last 30 years and they have all been lovely. The kindness Eli Sanders and Kelly O showed me will always stay with me.

I wish they would bring back Slog Happy as I made many friends among the commentariat in real life over a beer at those events. The meet up to which Bethany Jean Clement brought cupcakes with LITTLE PIES BAKED INSIDE will live in my memory forever. :)

So happy birthday again, and here's to another 30 years. <3 <3 <3

You would think the yokels in Texas would have parked the cars end to end instead of side by side to increase the range of the barrier. Sure will make for a great campaign photo to appease the rubes though. Hopefully some of them get stolen by immigrants.

About 30 years ago I worked at a large aerospace company that used to be headquartered here in Seattle. At the entrance gate there was a kiosk that held free copies of "The Stranger", so I picked one up to read at lunchtime. As I was reading it I saw a "G" rated sketch of man taking a shower. I decided to read the accompanying article which was written by some guy named Dan Savage with whom I was unfamiliar. It turns out the guy taking the shower was a male prostitute and the water spraying in the sketch was actually him defecating on a "john" who hired the prostitute regularly to perform that act on him. I didn't know it was possible to "slam" a newspaper shut, but I did just that and quickly looked around to make sure nobody was reading over my shoulder. I finished reading the paper at home and have been a loyal reader ever since (though not at work).

You know what I miss? The Village Voice.
That was a weekly worth celebrating (and mourning).

The Stranger is one if the best parts of Seattle and has been for all 30 years. Sure it has changed with the times and the comment section is filled with idiot trolls but EVERY comment section is filled with idiot trolls. I've loved reading this paper and seeing the talented writers that have emerged. Happily donated today, hadn't done that before and it is worth it. Keep on keepin' on STRANGER!

"unmoderated abandoned digital haunted house for Trolls, racists, and ignorant morons", @4 whines

But that's why he loves it, obviously.

@11 - I agree with you as to the Bremerton ferry because of the way the dock is set up. But on the Edmonds-Kingston line, where the waiting area is on the side of the road, you go from the holding pen, turn left, go one block through another intersection, and then drive onto the dock. People will just stay on the road and turn left into the ferry traffic, bypassing the holding area.

MF-ers ought to be keelhauled or at least have their vehicles pushed over the side into the Sound. And I'm sure it's pure coincidence, but the last two I saw do it had Trump stickers.
