I'm just so thankful I'm not a person who delights in animal cruelty.

Also, it's beyond disingenuous to not tell the whole story about that rich white boy in Texas, who was intentionally trying to harm those cyclists. It wasn't an accident. Tell the whole truth.

Rittenhouse is an adult. Barely. And a stupid, gullible, one. But he's an adult. He's right where he ought to be, and hopefully he'll end up where he belongs for a good long time.

And that little bastard in Texas is in no way absolved because society lets kids drive. Using this as an opportunity for your tired rant about cars is kind of gross, actually.

I don't know whether he did or did not actually intend to hit anyone. Not enough information yet. But I do know that he actually intended to be a asshole, and succeeded in spades. I guess at least his dad can be proud that he's owning the libs before he can even shave.

@2,

He was a minor when the crime was committed, which should be the applicable standard here, for better or for worse.

6

@5 - yes, he was. But minors can be tried as adults when circumstances dictate. And this asshole not only killed people, but he armed up and got himself ready to take part in a race war.

Should his parents share some of the blame? Absolutely. but he was not exactly stealing hubcaps or buying beer with a fake ID. What he did was not only murderous but part of the whole treasonous movement from the last few years. There needs to be a line drawn.

@8 - I am afraid you may be right. I can't imagine that at least one MAGAt didn't sneak onto the jury.

@2: "And a stupid, gullible, one."

Yes. Stupid and gullible. But not in the way most people are thinking. He thought that all he'd have to do was stand there looking tough with a rifle and looters and vandals would, as individuals, weigh the consequences and move on. Like a burglar sizes up a house and passes on the one with a mean dog and security system. But he was confronting a well trained paramilitary group. Where a squad will advance on an enemy even if that means taking individual casualties.

It's a problem for law enforcement as well. Since their goal is to apprehend individual wrong-doers. But this isn't individuals anymore. This is a military operation where they need suppressive fire and similar tactics. A line of national guard troops perhaps. Or MRAPs. Rittenhouse may have instigated the situation by being a small target that an enemy squad thought they could overwhelm.

@12: Missed a day in civics class, did we? Juries can be hung. And then the judge can dismiss the case with prejudice (prosecutorial misconduct being one reason).

16

And here we see further evidence of failure in our liberal arts education system with @7's inability to distinguish between normative and descriptive claims.

A republican dramatic repression of wages? Of course the democrat dramatic repression of wages is taxation.
