Strange to raise bonds for bridges when the infrastructure bill was just signed into law.

3

@1, the federal infrastructure legislation covers all 50 states, not just Washington. @2, since the budget did address bridges, infrastructure did not take a back seat.

My gut tells me we should've chosen an attorney who has actual recent relevant experience to help the city defend this important bit of progressive taxation, but what do I know?

7

how you gonna call the Jumpstart tax a success when there is a chance the whole thing could get pulled by the courts?
typical Lisa herbold, I'm pretty sure she's a legit moron who lucked-out with being white. that's the only way I can picture someone so stupid being able to afford two homes.

@7: Perhaps Jumpstart can take a page from Texas'anti-abortion playbook. And make collecting the payroll tax a matter of civil suits. Nobody said we can't have private citizens paying visits, saying, "Say, that's a nice business ya' got there buddy. Shsme if sumptin' were to happen to it."

10

@7 Exactly. Its a discriminatory income tax.

1) Its against Washington State Law.

2) Its levied solely on the wealthy... helping the poor isn't the exclusive purview of the rich...it should be shared by all the citizens, not just the rich.

Its socialist, political slop at its very worst. Little wonder companies and the wealth is moving to Bellevue ...and not a minute too soon.

@8 has an idea.

Bounty collecting isn't as hard as people make it look like.

@7 I doubt it gets pulled. The courts have ruled repeatedly that city’s have the right to tax business via a payroll tax. The biggest danger to this is spending the money before they have collected a cent. The first returns aren’t due until well into 2022 so they are guessing right now what employment will be in the city next year. The budget office has already told them they are looking at a deficit in 2023 as it stands now (no more one time fed money) so if business delays returns and/or stays remote the budget will be FUBAR by mid year. It’s a bold move Cotton, we’ll see if it pays off for them.

@9 herbold's cuck husband detected. a couple do not need two homes within an hour from each-other, so why do they still own two homes? she let's family live in her other house, I assume they don't pay market-rate to stay there. white privilege. conspicuous consumption. thanks for playing.
