Actually Charles does rule

3

Charles bloviates constantly.

Last time I checked there was no war on cars. The city and country bends over backwards to cater to the vehicle. And why are you reading article after article on the subject if it makes you that upset? Calm down, go for a drive.

5

@4: Well, on one hand a majority of us need and use cars and on the other are the same folks but are just really super pouty about it (Charles, Matt, @2, you). No, it's not a war, it's annoying.

7

@5, I'm not anti car, I understand the unfortunate necessity of them. I am opposed to pointlessly oversized vehicles and bigger is better marketing.

8

Why was this I,A featured when it's no different than the comments section on most of Chuck M's posts that involve his gripes about cars? I'll take whining Boomers over this any day.

9

@7: But the SUV commercials are such joy during the holidays, blazing through the snow adjusting mood lighting and coming home and telling Alexa to turn on the lights in the house.

I'm so tired of terrible drivers who blame everyone else for the consequences of their terrible, distracted driving. "Oh, those pedestrians jaywalk" they moan. "Those bicycles are just all over the place!" they complain. EVERYONE who drives a car knows that most drivers are barely paying attention to the road. They're on their phones, eating food, drinking their frap, and playing with the climate controls. Teaching a teenager to drive has been a real eye-opener to all of the terrible behavior on the road everyone just takes for granted. I've had to explain to my teenager that you just have to expect a certain number of people to run red lights, turn out of the wrong lane, swerve into oncoming traffic, drive in bike lanes etc.

I am ok with the current “lack of public transportation that fucks us.” I want no part in either side of a war on fuckable transit.

14

@10, this guy gets it.

@5, I call bullshit on "needing cars". Lots of people choose lifestyles where cars are more convenient than the alternatives. But did they need to make those choices in the first place? How about taking responsibility for the choices you've made? We need food, water, oxygen, and sleep. We do not need cars.

15

As a driver, I take the opposite view. Sure, pedestrian and bike traffic are "in the way" sometimes, but they have legal, ethical, and moral priority over car traffic, so whenever I get a little annoyed I remind myself to be thankful to them for making the world a better place, as opposed to us drivers.

Two weeks in a row where we've had boomers and drivers who both are acting like they have been victimized by the world? I, Anonymous has taken a turn to the deep cringe... Next we are going to have a NIMBY defense column.

Also this person needs to take a deep breath. Owning a car isn't an identity or a personality or a lifestyle. It's just a choice that almost everyone else has also made. Get over yourself!

18

16: If you’re so upset with cars and boomers, why do you work at the drive up window at McDonald’s? Just get my fries!

What does Seattle being "a port city" have to do with whether people need cars or not? Most port cities around the world have low-fare or fare-free public transportation systems and that works out very well.

As to people needing cars because they're poor and the bus takes too long- well, fair point, but that makes the argument for a much stronger investment in public transportation than most most cities and states make in this country, and for finally telling Tim Eyman to fuck the fucking fuck off, not for treating car culture as something sacred.

@18
Lol what the fuck is this, a joke from a villain in a 90s SNL movie? Get some new material you half-wit has-been moron.
