Lest we forget, Ray Allen was a Seattle Supersonic for almost as long as he was a Milwaukee Buck (and he co-starred in Spike Lee's "He Got Game").

2

+1 @1. Maybe next Slog can refer to "former University of Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson." Still not quite as bad as the reference in yesterday's Slog AM to Kshama Sawant's "Democrat colleagues."

But hey, it gets us commenting. So it's all good!

Jas, those shipping containers don't necessarily sink. It depends what's in them. If they are full of plastic toys, or Nike shoes, or anything buoyant, the shipping container will float. Even worse, sometimes they float just below the surface where you can't see them. They create a terrible shipping hazard. Imagine being on a fishing boat or small vessel of any kind, and hitting a slightly submerged shipping container at full speed. Ouch!

4

+1 @1 and @2. I look forward to Slog referencing “former Cincinnati Reds outfielder Ken Griffey Jr.”

NBA basketball is the pro sport that I care the least about because the players are such drama queens, but I'm glad to see a sport covered in the Stranger where the author doesn't say that they don't care about or don't know anything about sports.

Anyways, so Fox News had a doctor on who encouraged unvaxxed people to get COVID. with this, along with the revelations that Fox News personnel were secretly texting the White House to call on the Jan. 6 traitors to stop rioting, then deliberately lying on air about who was responsible for the rioting, can Fox News be disqualified as a news organization and get their press credentials for the White House and other news events revoked?

@1, @2, @4

I don't know if it's a valid excuse, since a reporter is supposed to know about local history and all that, but it looks like she's just following the lead of NPR, which identified Allen simply as a former Buck, not a former Sonic.

7

And speaking of formers, let's not miss the fact that Cuomo is the former governor of NY, which is kind of important in the context of the story.

8

@6: "it looks like she's just following the lead of NPR, which identified Allen simply as a former Buck, not a former Sonic."

At the risk of sounding snarky, which is absolutely not my intention, I would file this observation under the category, "It goes without saying."

BTW, statements that can be filed under the category, "Things Gen Zers can say to Millennials to make them feel old:
"What, Ray Allen used to play for the Sonics?"
"Who are the Sonics?"

@6,

I'd think that's absolutely a valid excuse. I'm not sure about this and am open to be corrected, but if we're gonna get all specific about the responsibility of the reporter, then I'd imagine she may have been correct in calling him a Buck, assuming that's who he was with at the time he set the record. Jeez, I'm as dorky and knowledgeable a sports fan as probably almost anyone on the slog, and even I would think this is fine. I'm just glad it even got a mention.

11

@10, being aware that Ray Allen, easily one of Seattle’s all-time most popular athletes, was a Sonic is hardly “exhaustive knowledge of local sports history.” It’s not even that “historical” given his tenure happened in the 2000s.

But anyway, yeah. A caveat that the author knows nothing about sports would help, as long as it doesn’t come with condescension (“for those who give a shit for some reason, here’s a sportsball thing”)

Nothing on Manchin sinking the BBB for his Republicant overlords?

Hmm.

Ok.

13

Seattle poke is terrible. Nobody marinates the meat, which is freakin' essential. Everyone just thinks it's slightly more complicated chirashi, which it is absolutely not.

14

@12: Nothing wrong with making BBB better by making it more fiscally sound. I suggest patience.

15

@14 so you're ok with cutting the military capital ship program in half?

That would pay for the entire BBB package.

You're welcome.

17

@15: Well I'm sure that would be nice but that expenditure is not on the table for the BBB bill.

If you want to keep City Hall Park as a park, fine. But let's define "park" as not including open-air drug sales and public wino-ness. That park has been useless to the public forever. And then let's start on Third Ave in front of the courthouse. It is a fucking disgrace that people who work in the courthouse are literally afraid to show up at the entrance.

19

@18 actually, it used to be a fairly normal park, but I see you're new here.

I have been on different medication for over 2 years for my Genital Herpes Virus and I usually have outbreaks which come every 3 months on my genital area which is itching blisters, I was recommended to Doctor Nelson Salim, a herbal specialist on this blog site by his previous client who was cured from different diseases. At first I thought it was a scam because I was told there is no Medical Cure yet, but I decided to take the risk because of the stigma the virus has. I placed an order for his product which I received at my address through DHL service within 4 days which was a bit expensive, and with the doctor's directions I used the herbal product for 21 days. The first week I discovered a huge difference in my health, my outbreak stopped alongside the itchiness after concluding the treatment, I went for a PCR test which confirmed negative to the Herpes Virus with no trace of the virus on my blood. I recommend his product to anyone with Yeast Infection, Epstein Barr, Lupus, HPV, Genital Warts, Diabetes, natural cure for Cancer without Chemo or surgery, Uterus tumor, Prostate, Fibroid, Arthritis, Cholesterol, Hepatitis B there is no disease without natural cure let's stop been deceived by big Pharma. who are only interested in their pocket, not human health, get your herbal medicine and get cured from your health problems. There are a lot of testimonies of him both on Youtube, He has cured lot of citizens both in the United States, Canada and other European countries; his mail;

@19 Will, when? It was a scary park in the '90's. How far back do you have to go?

22

@19, @21 - I would hope that it will be again.

23

@22 dvs99, me too. I would like all of our parks to be safe places again.

What a shame that 800,000 (although I can't help but wonder if the nation's number is actually higher than reported) U.S citizens since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic have died.
If we had had an actual President in the White House from January 20, 2017 through January 20, 2021 this preventable global tragedy wouldn't be happening. Profiteering MAGA delusionalists are only serving to send their batshit game into extra innings, in hopes that the pandemic never ends.

In brighter news, Doug Ericsen, Washington State's GOP Trump campaign manager-turned-"Ambassador of Cambodia' before fleeing to El Salvador with his shroom dangling between his fossil fuel industry coddling little legs died of COVID as of Friday, December 17, 2021 (thank you, AlaskanbutnotSeanParnell for the link and update). Tribal nations and many Democrat voters throughout the state must be relieved if not wildly rejoicing. I know I am. Of all Trump's MAGA minions here in Washington State, Doug Ericsen was as evil as they come, gleefully profiteering on others' misery.
Here's hoping that Ericsen's successor is a Democrat and the 42nd District turns blue.

25

@21 & @23 Pretty in Pink and @22 dvs99: How sad that Seattle's public parks are no longer safe! Seattle regrettably is no longer the city I knew it to be. Out of control regional growth and income inequality haven't helped.

I was diagnosed with Herpes early this year in 2021 and the doctor told me herpes has no cure. I kept searching for any possible cure. While searching, I came across lots of reviews on facebook about how doctor DOUGRAY used herbal medicine to cure different people from Herpes and other diseases. I made an order for the herpes cure eraser and I received it 5 days later, I took the medicine for 9 days as instructed. While taking the medicine, I noticed some changes in my body. I used the medicine during the outbreak and the outbreak stopped completely. all the itching and pain was gone completely. When I was done taking the herbal medicine, I went for a test and I was confirmed Herpes negative "totally cured". Before I made an order for herbal medicine, I promised Dr DOUGRAY that if his product actually worked for me I was going to share the testimony through all social media so lots of people can be aware that Herpes is curable. you can contact dr dougray via Email: drdougray@gmail.com

@26 & @27: Oh--I get it. You're the supposedly deported Nigerian prince living in exile with reportedly a mansion in Malibu with a staff of 24, a chateau in Switzerland, a villa in Milan, your own private airfield with a fleet of lear jets, a 10-story parking garage full of high end sports cars, a military compound in Abu Dhabi, and a drug cartel in El Salvador.
Isn't juggling multiple screen names becoming tiresome?
