Keep feeding the mice and you get more mice. Sweep away.

2

ah so it's a Vermin
Problem. Goebbels
& Adolph had one too

3

No, it's a drug, thievery, and mental health problem. If you won't take services or help and persist in your criminal behavior, you belong in jail.

5

"Even if it did bite you, its venom is not poisonous to humans, you would have to be allergic to have a problem with it."

Yes but when it flies out of the sky and lands on my face and I scream and run into traffic and get hit by a bus I'll still be dead either way.

6

It wasn't the Trump Plane. The Trump Plane is sitting on the deadbeats' ramp, minus an engine, at Stewart Airport in New York. The plane that suffered engine trouble over the weekend belonged to one of his rich donors, and after it made an emergency landing he was picked up by another private jet belonging to another rich donor.

7

Hanna, please stop working and embrace the homeless drug addict you want to be. You could sell repurposed merchandise.

I’m surprised Hannah did hit on this since it involves damaging cars. A Stranger object of scorn. Apparently now that gas is expensive again thieves are going back to stealing it along with your catalytic converters. They are even drilling holes in gas tanks. No worries though, it’s just a crime of poverty

27

@2: Mice are not necessarily vermin, and @1's use implies mice are not vermin in this case: vermin are, by definition, dangerous pests, and so merely sweeping vermin will not be adequate.

Furthermore, in the larger context of homeless encampments in Seattle, opponents of sweeping such encampments have oft stated their opinion -- as if it was a proven fact, worthy of consideration by actual adults -- that sweeping will not be effective. So again, in this context, sweeping mice doesn't equate to eradication of vermin.

I hope this helps. You're welcome.

29

Ah, the old Seattle question...is it more compassionate to let people live amongst filth and disease, or give 7 of them offers for help while the rest choose to stay outside?
Gotta hand it to the outreach team, 7 of 19 accepting shelter offers is way better than their usual average of 2 or 3.

At what point do we get to that new Cali policy wherein you are offered either shelter/treatment OR jail? Staying on the street should no longer be an option.

32

from Quentin Tarantino’s
brilliant Documentary
Inglorius Basterds

here’s SS Colonel
Hans Landa
on vermin:

Now, if one were to determine what attribute the German people share with a beast, it would be the cunning and the predatory instinct of a hawk. But if one were to determine what attributes the Jews share with a beast, it would be that of the rat.

The Fuhrer and Goebbels’ propaganda have said pretty much the same thing. But where our conclusions differ, is I don’t consider the comparison an insult. Consider for a moment the world a rat lives in.

It’s a hostile world, indeed. If a rat were to scamper through your front door, right now, would you greet it with hostility? … Has a rat ever done anything to you to create this animosity you feel toward them?

Rats were the cause of the bubonic plague, but that’s some time ago. I propose to you any disease a rat could spread, a squirrel could equally carry. Would you agree?

Yet, I assume you don’t share the same animosity with squirrels that you do with rats, do you? Yet, they’re both rodents, are they not? And except for the tail, they even rather look alike, don’t they?

However interesting as the thought may be, it makes not one bit of difference to how you feel. If a rat were to walk in here, right now, as I’m talking would you greet it with a saucer of your delicious milk?

I didn’t think so. You don’t like them. You don’t really know why you don’t like them. All you know is you find them repulsive

33

Enough of the Godwin masturbating kristokrazy, it just makes you look desperate.

34

I don't like people who live in their own filth in a public park or right-of-way who steal from local businesses and homes, shoot up drugs, expect free stuff, and reject offers of assistance. And I don't like people who defend them.

35

Sweep early, sweep often, sweep relentlessly. Make it so hard to be homeless in Seattle that the problem goes somewhere else. Yes, 'goes somewhere else'. The only real solution for solving homelessness is taking away the individuals' due process rights, and detain them and force them to get drug addiction and mental illness treatment and be re-educated in order to be a member of society. However, there is no political will to do what is needed, so just push the problem out of Seattle so that the taxpaying citizens of the city don't have to look at it.

37

just wait'll Catastrophic
Climate Change and
it's Billion+ Migrants
come a' knockin'

you prolly won't
hafta wait Long

39

@36: They don't go away but at least a sweeping enables needles and trash cleanup, and environmental destruction to be attended to, for at least a period of time.

41

DUI’s are a very poor analogy. People don’t have to drive drunk. But people do have to acquire shelter. It’s a fundamental need of all humans.

Sweeping does not provide permanent shelter or even solutions to poverty, mental health or drug addiction.

The offers of shelter during sweeps are temporary and often come with strings attached that mentally disabled people do not have the wear with all to consistently adhere to.

Sweeps did not impact homeless when we did them more often. And in fact the highest rate of homeless growth occurred while sweeps were still the policy and in part why they were ended as they are generally futile and a poor and expensive use of LEO resources. The next step is jail. Which is criminalizing mental illness AND three times more expensive than merely providing shelter.

This is all well known and why the problems are so intractable and difficult to solve in pretty much every major city in the US.

43

who gets to Define
the 'real world'?

Billionaires do.
remember: WE
outnumber them

44

All the Mayor cares about is his views from his workplace, not all the people unable to use the sidewalks, or those now without any housing.

When he restores the original 65 foot zoning to Magnolia and Montlake and all the neighborhoods that were downzoned in 1933, I'll believe he's given up on his Redlining ways.

In a nation with strict political finance laws, control over the news media has provided an avenue for the very rich to influence elections, this one more than ever.

49

here's a comment
from @48

Billionaires shaping presidential elections in France? Of course. But what about these United States, especially after "Citizens United"?

The rich and powerful corporate world remains in control of the political rigging, as politicians have become corrupt, sold to their higher bidders...so to sign laws exempting them from paying their share in taxes.

Meanwhile, our democracy is being left in tatters, with its odious social and economic inequalities...that ought to be incompatible with our freedom and justice.

Therefore, while we point fingers to France, shall we look in the mirror?

@30: If you just censor the scary words you can't face, they'll just magically go away and not bother you any more. (And it's not like anyone can look up-screen and see the intact original, which you so desperately vandalized.)

The only one here comparing humans to vermin is you, which you began with your first comment. The only one here comparing liberals to Nazis is you, which you began with your first comment. You are yourself the source of the very problems you decry.

55

@41: "[Camping] does not provide permanent shelter or even solutions to poverty, mental health or drug addiction."

Fixed that for you. You're welcome.

@36: "surely if you keep doing the same thing over and over again eventually you will get a different result, just keep at it and eventually the homeless people will simply go away"

Yes, allowing encampments over and over again has always obtained the same result: squalor, disease, criminal assaults, and death for the homeless themselves, and increased crime and lower quality of life for everyone else.

(And the homeless are going away. They are dying.)

58

@57: Normally, when someone just keeps on misunderstanding the same selectively-quoted words, I advise that person to read the entire original quote, as it would help improve reading comprehension. You've shown that's pretty much a waste of time in your case, though, so I won't bother.

I understand, though: through a lifetime of persistent hard work, you eventually managed to climb all of the way up to the very lowest level of the gutter, amazing yourself with the production of your greatest and classiest witticism, a single piece of name-calling. Having achieved a height you could never possibly hope to exceed, you had no choice but to flush yourself back whence you came, calling your fellow human beings "vermin," and your fellow citizens Nazis.

Enjoy your new home, same as your old home; I'm leaving you there. Good-bye.
