"Death of the Author" is definitely a thing that applies here and the majority of folks have decided that hard-G "gif" is the way to go.

I also saw a snarky joke saying this dude is "with Jod now" since he passed away. Crass, but funny.

@1:

Do you pronounce the word "giant" as "guyant"?

7

@5: What about a 15 second YouTube clip without context?

9

Choosy Mom's choose gif.

10

The Seahawks wouldn't have to draft Kaepernick, simply sign him.

12

I hope Kaep gets a chance. Can't be worse than Geno.

I have yet to hear a good reason why, here in the land of the free, it should be a such a big deal if a person exercises those most basic freedoms. Why does it matter what position his body was in when the national anthem played?

It's a stupid song. It's a stupid flag. Folks like to say "people died for your freedom" and this is what they died for. The right to protest. The right to speak. The right to not have to pledge allegiance, or to stand up for a goddamn song.

The people who have a grievance against Kaepernick are much more detrimental to America than he ever will be because they do not or will not understand the basic concepts they constantly espouse.

@5 the WIKI article had a compilation of cites so it was convenient and why I copied it whole. If you wish to outline specific inaccuracies in the quote then please do so. Or you yourself can go out and find a better source if you like. Particularly since the OP had a third party Youtube clip that omitted follow up, context or anything else and you didn't have a problem with that.

The Irish have pledged to take 200,000 Ukrainian refugees. And they have a population of 5 million.

17

@12: "Why does it matter what position his body was in when the national anthem played?"

Why does it matter what position a ballet dancer has in Swan Lake? Or a Rockette in Radio City Music Hall? Or an extra on a Broadway play?

NFL players are essentially performing artists, and are expected to stick to the script and not break character for the benefit of the paying audience or sports fans. And that's what Kaepernick did.

18

@17 So what you're saying is the NFL is fixed?

20

@18: My analogy doesn't stretch that far, unless there's something we don't know about.

22

@17, I had a feeling you'd respond, defending the indefensible as usual.

"Why does it matter what position a ballet dancer has in Swan Lake? Or a Rockette in Radio City Music Hall? Or an extra on a Broadway play?"

The positions of the people you mentioned matter relative to what they are doing within the performance, not before it starts. So I would say they would be free to take a knee as well before the "scripted" part begins. But that wouldn't really make sense would it? When is the last time you heard the national anthem being played on Broadway or Radio City?

The NFL is an extremely nationalist organization, and a very thinly-veiled recruiting center for the military. They love the idea of freedom. Just not the practice of it. I'm not aware of any other "performing arts" that dive head first into hypocritical jingoism the way the NFL does.

Are you even trying any more?

Kaepernick should have gone to Canada, won a Grey Cup or 1, and come back triumphant like Kurt Warner. As STII points out, his skills have to have declined with inaction and age - he's 34 now; same age as Wussell Wilson.

And his skills were quickly putting him out of a job, regardless.

I love that Jas doesn't know what draft means in a sportsball context.

24

Grey cup or TWO!

25

@8:

This is the ENGLISH language we're talking about here - logic doesn't apply. For example: "Pacific Ocean" has three "c's", all of which are pronounced differently.

28

Generally speaking, only players leaving college get drafted. If they don't get drafted then they get signed as an 'undrafted free agent'. Otherwise, all veteran players get 'signed', as in they sign a new contract with the team.

Free business of sports lesson!

Also, in reference to Kap, I think the reason he hasn't played since 2017 is because he lacks the talent to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. NFL defenses figured him out. If he had the talent he would be starting regardless of what his beliefs are. Look around the NFL and there are crazy anti-vaxxers, abusers of women and children and other anti-social types that are starters at their positions because the NFL teams decided they have top-tier talent and don't care about the off-field stuff. If Kap had top-tier talent, he'd be starting somewhere and taking a knee during the anthem.

That being said, give him a try-out, let him compete for a job. My guess is because he lacks the talent, most clubs aren't willing to put up with the PR headaches that would come with it.

Remember Jim Harbaugh said Kap is great with a capital G.

@26 I am glad you call Joint Photographic Experts Group files "jay-phegs." Do you also call a Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus "scuh-ba" gear?

you know, to be consistent and all.

33

Do you pronounce gift like gift?

34

Not this tiresome argument again. Somebody please give me some gin.
