"Marshall Law Band provided the intro and outro soundtrack, which unquestionably should have gone to more capable hands."

BBC probably would have never heard of this band if the Stranger hadn't promoted them. Per Rich Smith, the band's first record "sounds great." https://www.thestranger.com/slog/2020/11/30/52531697/the-marshall-law-band-takes-the-spirit-of-chop-national

so it's an unforced error by The Stranger, @1?

Hmmm.

Never heard of them.

"Let's ask #1 what they think--they always have a well-thought out and nuanced opinion"--said no one, ever

"Well, you mentioned them in an article so it's all your fault" is a breathtakingly stupid statement. But let's use your reasoning: There are 1830 results for Ahamefule J. Oluo on the Stranger website. Marshall Law Band has 194. By your own ridiculous logic, Oluo should have been mentioned before the MLB.

"so it's an unforced error by The Stranger, @1?"

Yeah, I can imagine the editorial meeting:

Rich: "Hey, I like the new MLB album. I think I'm going to write about it."

Editorial staff, in unison: "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU THINKING?!? WHAT IF THE BBC DOES A DOCUMENTARY IN TWO YEARS AND FEATURES THEM INSTEAD OF MORE IMPORTANT SEATTLE ARTISTS?!?!"

I didn't catch this, but I'm curious about the part featuring 343. I mean, game development IS the arts. There are aspects of tech but primarily it's entertainment, just like film and many other kinds of creative work.

343 may be owned by Microsoft, but as a studio they employ huge numbers of artists, audio, game designers. And the engineering side is as much art as it is traditional engineering esp in areas like gameplay programming.

So ... did they really hold up a game studio as an example of how tech is pushing out creative work in the area?

Anyone interested can listen to the episode as it aired on the BBC from their website.
