Man, as recently as a decade or so ago I'd heard seemingly knowledgeable people saying that having Roe overturned wouldn't be all that catastrophic as the laws would then wind up in states' hands, and rights would likely remain almost universally intact. And now we've not even seen anything to challenge Roe, but rights are nevertheless rapidly disappearing.

I can understand some reluctance to add four justices to the court, but two additional dem appointments would be perfectly reasonable, and help to confer an overall ideological and judicial philosophy that more closely represents that of the populace at large. Eleven's kinda a cool number too, the first of the two-digit primes! Should be a no-brainer.

The rise in pedestrian accidents and fatalities Hmm... I often wonder if:

-- the maze of various traffic turn lanes,
--bike lanes crossing the entire city in a militant fashion, heedless of normal needs
--absolutely bizarre parking strips with bikes on one side and travel lanes on the other
--multi- out of sync traffic lights
--veritable "totem pole" of street lane/ use signs which serves to confuse rather than clarify

I wonder if this just might be the cause of more pedestrian accidents and fatalities.

@1, @2: More than fifteen years ago, the Washington State affiliate of NARAL was running an Abortion Access Network, because of a dearth of medical resources across the state. So there was "abortion tourism" going on right here in Seattle.

(The anti-choice side will do anything to reduce the number of legal abortions, so long as it doesn't involve either contraception or sex education.)

I don't know who to feel sorrier for now---women and adolescent girls in their reproductive years, or little girls from birth to their preteen years who have yet to experience their first menstrual period.
