I suspect that Saudi Arabia is one of our most complicated allies. They are committing horrendous atrocities, with our help. But they are one of the most western-friendly nations in the Middle East, and fairly cooperative with Israel. It's an area with few allies, so the US is not in any rush to piss them off. We're trying to put the squeeze on Russia, and cut off their oil exports. But to do that, oil needs to be found elsewhere to make up for the loss of Russian oil. Saudi Arabia has one of the largest oil reserves on the planet. If we were to cut off Russian oil, and then piss off the Saudis, we could end up with a spike in oil prices that could throw Europe into chaos. Yes, yes, we should be reducing our dependance on fossil fuels, but that isn't going to happen over night. In the mean time, we kinda need Saudi oil and Saudi cooperation in Middle East politics, even if they're kind of an ugly ally. There are no simple solutions to any of these issues, and it involves far more than just the war in Yemen.
