Chuck Schumer is pathetic. He held a vote on abortion to make republicans be immediately accountable - but not guns?

2

"I just want to add that several media outlets have and will continue to run stories about the “debate” over putting cops in schools."

Parkland had a cop. The coward fled.

The cops were at this school. The cowards didn't do anything for 40 minutes. https://apnews.com/article/uvalde-texas-school-shooting-44a7cfb990feaa6ffe482483df6e4683

Teachers were using their bodies to shield children from bullets and the people who are supposed to protect us are nowhere to be found. But they need more money. How much money does it take to buy courage, ethics and morality I wonder?

3

More school children have been killed by guns this year than cops have been killed by guns. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/yes-there-were-more-children-killed-in-school-shootings-this-year-than-on-duty-law-enforcement-officers-killed-by-gunfire/ar-AAXJ9HG?

But hurrrr durrrr we have the most dangerous job (except for like 20 other more dangerous jobs) give us more money!

4

We should definitely vote all democrats out of congress right now. Then we'd get some gun control bills passed. OR we should try to split pro-gun control votes among a mixture of socialist, democrat and green party candidates. Then we could endlessly fight between different pro-gun control parties about what strategy is the best. That would allow pro-gun control lefties to endlessly complain about how the Democrats let the Republicans control congress and the white house because they're so weak. It's just the best.

Why are the no Rabid foaming at the mouth

Cops are useless.

7

This is national terrorism carried out by the abusive, sadistic, illegitimate Republinazi party.

Knowing that you and your family could be killed at any time—while at school, work, church, the mall, walking the dogs—is their way of enforcing kleptocracy and white trash supremacy, because people that are terrorized are easy to deceive and control.

That’s why their Tr666pist politicians and propagandists are constantly puking out hate, fear, and lies.

9

Hannah, you know how the Senate works, right? It's not going to stop working that way. Not in this congress or the next.

Stop giving @8's Bothsiderism succor. If Amurka ever elected 67 Dems to the Senate (yes I know that happened then Ted Kennedy got a glioblastoma), they'd pass a "gun show loophole" background check bill.

And it would do exactly shit to stop the next Salvador Ramos.

10

Hannah obviously has no idea how the Senate works.

11

In these divisive times, at least we can all agree that the MAGAts should hang Mike Dense.

If only mighty Elf Queen Jill Stein or stoner Gary Johnson had magically gotten elected. What with their mighty coalitions of… zero.

Then for sure we’d not only have gun control (though neither stated any proposal and Libertarian dipshit Johnson was adamantly against any such thing) but we would also have warp drive! And matter transporters!

Man. We really missed an opportunity there.

And if there is anything we can be totally sure about is that criticism of the Rightwing gun cult only hurts their feelings. And guys, how are they going to ritually slaughter children through tears in their eyes?

Come on you mean democrats. Will no one think of the Death Cult Rightwing and their gun lobby and how they feel?

16

Jesus, it's not "the Democrats." It's 2 democrats and FIFTY Republicans. This type of rant will only push voters away, when we need to be gunning for the finish line. There are 5 toss-up Senate races this cycle. Direct your rants against the Republicans running in Pennsylvania, Nevada, Arizona, New Hampshire, and Georgia. That might not be helpful, but at least you won't be helping to foment Democratic fatalism.

17

@10 it DOESN’T work.

18

@2: I'm advocating that every security guard at a school be monitored by another security guard. And that second security guard will then be monitored via streaming cams by random people online. And those random people online will then be monitored via streaming cams by other random people online. It's the only workable solution to stop school shootings.

19

@1, This somewhat dovtails into @8 was getting at in that Chucky probably didn't think it was worth it because so many Senators have been purchased by the gun lobby, on both sides of the aisle, and even if you had 50+1, Sinema and Manchin would say "can't get rid of the filibuster.

@16, Add Wisconsin to the cutthroat Senate races.

20

Republican logic: gun control laws do nothing to reduce or prevent mass shootings, but laws banning abortion will reduce and prevent abortions.

21

@17 Never said the Senate works well; I think the Senate should be abolished. That doesn't change the fact that Hannah doesn't understand how the institution works.

22

@21. And you don't understand how proving a negative works and who has the burden of proof here. How does the institution work?

23

sadly it seems only McMitch KkKonnell knows
how to play the Senate worth a gott Damn.

well him and
His (USSC) Court

where are all
our Good Billionaires
when ya need 'em Most?

24

Hannah's SLOGs would be better if she just tagged the end with: "And there's not a fucking thing you can do about it."

25

Our school's Deputy Douchebag was in his upper thirties, and married one of my classmates as soon as she turned 18.

26

You know what a democrat is to do? Elect more democrats so there are actually enough of them in office to do anything. 50 D senators is not enough if some of them are not inclined to vote like Ds. Need 2-3 more to cover up for the most outlying Ds (and even if they weren't Manchin & Sinema, somebody will always be the most conservative D, even if in a super duper progressive world it were Elizabeth Warren). Maybe we can get one in WI, maybe another in PA. Won't matter if we don't keep the 50 we already have.

27

@2 cops aren't actually supposed to protect us, they're only supposed to arrest lawbreakers. If it's too dangerous to do so, they're not required to throw themselves between citizens and bullets. They're not in the secret service. They're not even firefighters who are expected to go into burning buildings. With that in mind one might question why they have such massive budgets for weapons.

28

and if those Blu Lives truly Mattered
why wouldn't they Mask themselves
up in a Panfucking Demic?

this is beginning

well at least we

Here is a bit of a moral question and debate. Also perhaps a not so modest proposal. We are currently at a political impasse, with the Republicans total owned by gun people. There is nothing to cause us to believe that the Democrats may achieve a 60+ Senate majority in any foreseeable future. So the status quo will remain, and the slaughter of the innocents will only get worse and more frequent. We apparently will meekly stand by and wring our hands and weep tears and ink, as there is no other choice.
Or is there a lesson to be learned from the Jewish people in the aftermath of World War II and the Holocaust? Their lesson was "Never Again". Which in practical terms means they let the world know that "We are arming up motherfuckers, and we will not meekly go to deaths, ever again. And we are not going to be too fastidious about who gets caught up in the crossfire."
So, do some out there take up arms and practice self-defense? Are those senators who stand in the way of any reasonable gun safety measures fair targets? Does a list of senators with an A+ rating from the NRA and make up the the initial hit list? Obviously murder is illegal, and this proposal would reasonably be seen as terrorism. It seems morally repugnant to say the least. But given the current realities, and our deeply flawed anti-majoritarian form of government, is the choice not to engage in violence, or accept the slaughter? Would not a few dead senators assist the remainder and clarifying they are thinking?
This is all of course just an exercise in moral conjecture, and not in any sense a call to action.
I look forward to your thoughtful responses.

30

There was a cop a few years back who sacrificed himself when a naked nut job in Factoria got his gun. He ran away from the crowd so that when the crazy shot him he wouldn't hit other people. Then he walked up to the cop and shot him four more times or something horrible like that.

As for the failure of the system, the real failure is with the people. We elected the politicians, and we elected Republicans in sufficient numbers that they can stymie anything. We didn't used to do that.

But then again, Republicans used to not be as horrible of people as they are now. I blame Nixon.

31

@26. Like when Obama had a supermajority of 60 votes and they still did jack squat to advance a meaningful progressive agenda because that would have been moving too fast and would have alienated the Tea Party who was more concerned with Obama being born in Kenya and Hillary's emails.

nyt: Officials describe a chaotic scene
as criticism over police response mounts.
Here’s the latest.

UVALDE, Texas — Facing mounting criticism of the police response to the massacre at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, the authorities on Thursday described a chaotic scene at the school, with officers who were fired upon stopping to call in tactical teams and backing away from the classroom where the gunman killed 21 people.

Parents of students who were trapped inside furiously urged the police to storm the school sooner, according to witness accounts. “They were just angry,” said Derek Sotelo, 26, who heard gunfire from his tire shop nearby and followed it to the school. “We were wondering, ‘What the heck is going on? Are they going in?’ The dads were saying, ‘Give me the vest, I’ll go in there!’”

@29 -- "Would not

--@dirt bag

hmm. Assassinating Senators.
What could go Wrong?

35

@31: 60 votes that included Max Baucus, D-MT, and dying-from-brain-cancer Ted Kennedy. they barely had a functioning super majority, and it was short-lived.

What they did was argue over the ACA for a year before passing it - which is still "meaningful change", as watered down as it may be.

Then the Tea Party midterm dashed all hope.

36

@30: I blame Trump.

40

@21,

Yeah, taking a few frustrated grumblings about the body's inability to affect meaningful change, and extrapolating that she doesn't understand how the institution works is quite a stretch. Can you explain how exactly how you arrived at that conclusion?

41

@37: there's always CONTEXT.
@38: my "brand" is Not-Republicans. I feel the same frustration with the dysfunction in DC as any politically-informed Libtard, but I don't see the "corruption" you're constantly both-siding about. Regardless, there's only 2 alternate courses of action: vote for Republicans, or don't vote. No thanks to both.

44

@9 is dead right. The 50 Dems in the Senate now are not to blame for their majority being so slim. And if people are all excited to abolish the filibuster, which is tempting, contemplate the mandatory death penalty for abortion law that the next 51 vote Republican majority would probably pass.

45

@4: You've got it bass-ackwards, Ringo. We need to remove all REPUBLIKKKANS out of the House, Senate, and Congress, along with the Orange Turd's neofascist Extreme Court loyalists.
If there is anything the Democrats in charge need to do, it is to STOP COMPROMISING. That is the problem. RepubliKKKans don't compromise--they terrorize, and will stop at nothing until the world is destroyed all for their greedy lust for the last U.S. dollar.

Here is an example:
A Democrat, a RepubliKKKan, and an undecided voter sitting at a table with a plate of one dozen chocolate chip cookies are debating on how to equally share the cookies.
The Democrat says, "There are 12 cookies. In order to have an equal number of cookies we should each have four cookies."
Suddenly, after gobbling up eleven out of the twelve chocolate chip cookies, with crumbs all over his fat, gluttonous body and leaving only one, the RepubliKKKan says to the undecided voter, "That evil, conniving Democrat over there is trying to take your cookie."

Understand now, Ringo?

46

@36: Then why did you vote for him twice, you MAGA ultra-maroon?

@44 dvs99: I am still reeling over my eerily well-timed full bilateral hysterectomy in 2020 that miraculously ended 43 years of indescribably horrible long-term monthly agony (you don't want to know). RepubliKKKan neofascists are most likely going to deem hysterectomies illegal along with all other forms of birth control and contraception, thanks to the Orange Turd's Extreme Court.

47

@46: I didn't. I voted for Hillary in 2016 and Biden in 2020. That is a fact.

48

@33: The “modest proposal” reference was intended as a clue. My point was that other than rage, grief, resignation, and nihilistic resignation we all have no real solution to offer. We are fucked.

50

If people Hanna's age voted in large numbers, they could elect the politicians they want. But they can't be bothered to participate. Hanna, before you start throwing around phrases like 'failed state', think about how much better things would be if young people put their money where their mouths were. And also, go look at countries in Africa, the Middle East, South Asia and compare them to the US, and see if you still think you know what a failed state looks like.

51

@47: Yeah, well, for someone who claims to vote for Democrats you sure do sound like a fully blindsided, Orange Turd apologist MAGA rube to me whenever you embroil in political debate, Elmer.

52

@23 kristofarian: I think the RepubliKKKan neofascists ate up and crapped out the last remaining good billionaires (i.e.: Bill Gates, who interestingly doesn't seem to be in news much, anymore). Jeff Bezos must have had a space BBQ on board his giant dildo. My guess is that what few decent 1%ers are left are being held hostage by the Party of Orange Turd.

53

@51: You can't assume knowledge that is impossible for you to know and then say I'm only claiming it.

Debate, means differing opinions, you dimwit. So use your brain for a change and engage in thoughtful debate instead of going into your childish cartoon talk that makes everybody cringe.

54

@51: Wow, Elmer, you've just proven yourself the frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of SLOG. Do you keep a supply of sweater vests in your closet, too?

55

I can match your vulgarity tit for tat if I wanted to, but such immaturity is beneath polite society.

56

@55: Awwwwwwww....did I hit you right smack dap in the balls again, Elmer?
Your avatar really should be a photo image of actor Kevin Bacon as Animal House Omega pledge, Chip Diller getting ceremoniously whacked in his undies: "Thank you, sir! May I have another?"
No, no, don't tell me---does Douglas C. Neidermeyer give you a hard on?

57

@55: You don't have a fucking clue what polite society IS, you ultra maroon.
And tomorrow I could be sober.

58

@57: Says the foul mouthed drunk.

59

Seriously though hon, time to begin a better life without alcohol. I did.

60

@56: Kevin Bacon is a great actor and a perpetually handsome man.

61

@58, @59, & @60: Says the trolling incel asshole who obviously can't detect sarcasm, let alone win any political debate.
Wow--three posts in a row after midnight, Elmer. Are you dying of boredom or was AM / PM out of Hostess Ding Dongs and YooHoos, HON?

62

A big shout out to King County Executive Dow Constantine and all men who are fully supportive of women's rights to have control of our own bodies, and willing to fight off these batshit crazy neofascist criminals.
