It's out front of the Bellagio, designed by WET (of recent New Yorker fame), and plays every 15 minutes of a Saturday night. (Playlist here.)

When I came upon its magical force, I witnessed its version of Ennio Morricone's "Ecstasy of Gold" from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly soundtrack, then Henry Mancini's Pink Panther theme, then Elton John's "Your Song." Surely these are highlights. Surely these should have caused me to cry.

But I did not. I was too filled with superdelight at the synchronized waterdancing and the sheer scale of the walls of water.

There is, however, a brand new fountain situation in Vegas (also designed by WET) that roused more complicated feelings, maybe in large part because they're out front of a hotel called Aria in the new CityCenter complex that is so massive and such a bad coverup of the fact that Vegas is actually in terrible financial straits. The fire and dolphins (below) face a mesmerizing wall of water; between them you hope to get hypnotized into forgetting the sad, sad, "CityCenter."
