Citing a few independent studies, the United States Postal Service is going to ask permission to cut Saturday service entirely.

I understand that I am biased—I'm maybe the last person in Seattle who still has actual pen pals, as in exchanging handwritten letters through the mail with people—but isn't this just an awful idea in general? "Our sales totally suck, so we're going to make our business even less convenient." Isn't that what newspapers have done by cutting their coverage to the point of uselessness? This is only going to anger a large portion of the millions of people who still use the U.S. mail on a regular basis (Netflix users, people who prefer the cheapest option when buying things online) and cause them to look at different delivery options.
