We have a discussion about feminism and Chile this afternoon, the author of historical romances and the author of a sci-fi thriller in which the United States has become a series of islands at Third Place Books tonight, and a book about angels and fairies and other things that grown human beings shouldn't believe at East West Bookshop tonight.

Also, we have two group readings. Jack Straw Productions is hosting four local authors tonight who will read on the theme "Myths, Legends, and Urban Folklore." Jack Straw teaches writers how to read their work aloud, so this should be an entertaining one. And the Spitfire in Belltown is hosting a reading called "Off Hours" in which a bunch of local authors read. The person to watch at this reading is Kary Wayson, whose American Husband was a phenomenal book of poetry published last year.

But if you like your readers one at a time, Walter Mosley reads at the Central Branch of Seattle Public Library. Mosley's newest series continues with The Long Fall. If you only know Mosley from his Easy Rawlins mysteries, I'd suggest you try his other work. He's one of the most solid authors going today. And he brings it, every time he reads. I'll never forget one time back in, oh, it must've been 03 or 04, when he showed up for a reading wearing the most amazing canary yellow suit. It was somehow a classy canary yellow suit. He loves to read and it shows; you don't leave a Mosley reading unsatisfied.

The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here. And if you're planning on staying in and you're looking for personalized book recommendations, feel free to tell me the books you like and ask me what to read next over at Questionland.
