Starting tomorrow, Hammering Man gets his arm (and his job) back. Via the Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs:

Since his installation in 1992, “Hammering Man” has logged nearly 90,000 hours, striking four times a minute and resting his arm each evening and every year on Labor Day. The sculpture is part of the city of Seattle’s public art collection.

Due to wear and tear, “Hammering Man’s” arm was temporarily removed last fall for repairs. Contractors rebuilt the dual gear cone drive, electric motor and lead counterweight system that powers the arm, which was resurfaced and repainted.

His return to work is not, however, going to make much of a dent in Washington State's unemployment rate—currently 9.7 percent.
