The beautiful Volunteer Park Conservatory could potentially be a victim of budget cuts, reports Capitol Hill Seattle, as Seattle Parks and Recreation funding looks likely to take a hit to cover the city's multimillion dollar deficit. In a reminder of what a small world it really is and how minor news reports have become, water in the Ballard Pool reportedly sloshed around for about 15 minutes after last weekend’s 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Mexico, according to My Ballard. And in a reminder that not everyone loves beavers, a worker from Seattle Public Utilities, "attacked the Maple Leaf beaver dam with an ax" on Monday, reports Maple Leaf Life, despite the fact the beavers just had babies. But according to Seattle Public Utilities, Mayor McGinn isn't a beaver-hater, contrary to the subsequently-removed P-I post headlined “Mayor Attacks Maple Leaf Beaver,” which allegedly incorrectly quoted a worker as saying the mayor ordered the destruction, Maple Leaf Life adds.

In non-rodent news, on Monday in West Seattle, someone robbed the Junction KeyBank and is still at large and considered armed and dangerous. Check out pictures of the suspiciously normal-looking suspect here on West Seattle Blog. Another incident late Monday night added to the recent spike in Capitol Hill robberies: A woman told police she was robbed at gunpoint late Monday night as she walked alone near Summit Avenue and Union Street. Luckily, she was on her phone when she was robbed, and her friend called 911 when she heard a man say to get off the phone or he would shoot. The Wedgwood/View Ridge area is experiencing a rash of car prowls lately, and this has many residents wondering whether "To lock or not to lock?" The Wedgwood View discusses the best strategies against car prowlers here. And finally, My Ballard reports that firefighters responded at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday to a "suspicious" fire in an abandoned house with boarded up windows, on 15th Avenue NW just north of NW 80th Street.
