Engadget thinks that Target will soon be carrying the Kindle. This would be the first time consumers could play around with the device before buying it. It's been impressive that Amazon has sold as many Kindles as they have without any kind of a physical retail presence. Not to be outdone, though, Barnes & Noble will be selling the Nook at Best Buys on April 18th.

Also not to be outdone, Apple might be selling a smaller, five-to-seven-inch e-reader-focused iPad as early as next year:

Kuo, citing talks with upstream component sources, said Apple's smaller-size iPad will be priced below US$400 and will target the highly-portable mobile device market and consumers that focus mainly on reading and do not have a high demand for text input.
