Five of the city council's nine members voted to approve a bill to fine aggressive solicitors $50 per violation. But it’s not enough to overcome a veto from Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn, who says he will nix the measure within ten days. It's unclear if council members will attempt to override the veto in a second vote; however, chances seem slim because they lack the six votes needed to overcome the mayor's objection.

Voting in favor of the bill: Richard Conlin, Jean Godden, Sally Clark, Sally Bagshaw, and bill sponsor Tim Burgess. Voting against it: Tom Rasmussen, Nick Licata, Bruce Harrell, and Mike O’Brien.

Roughly two-thirds of the people testifying before the council today were objecting to the bill.
